noise complaints

Hi friends,

I just wanted to know if any of you have been in a situation where you had to give a noise complaint against someone else..I'm kinda interested to know if the first time you are bothered by the noise it's a good idea to make the complaint, or if you should wait until you have a few more so you can document them all and present them appropriately....and did you find it best to put it in writing, or present it verbally to your building manager/landlord

..oh, and if you have some horror stories, those would be funny too.

being a person who usaly gets the noise complaints against me, i like it when people come over in person and just let you know there is a problem as the first step. from there you are free to do whatever i guess

Yeah the thing is my roommate did try to approach these people in person and they were totally abrupt with him, like it didn't even matter...and it didn't really help because they were back at it again...at 3am!!!

My guess was last night, no..and not on other nights either

some people just aren't intelligent enough to realize that when they're drunk and yipping out on their deck that their noise flows quite freely into surrounding bedroom windows.

did i mention i have to get up at 5am for work? i should just go out then and scream at cars driving by like they did.

ahhh shiet!

Noise complaints is what I've been having to deal with for the last couple of years. My appt building is pretty strict. My roomie & me can't even have the shit turned up past 5 on the mixer, otherwise ppl get annoyed. With all the bull-shit rules we've learned to adapt, and just live with the fact that our appt is not a club (as much as we would want it to be)

The other day tho, we had to give a noise complaint with the asian couple who live upstairs. Usualy it's them making the complaints about us, but we had the chance to turn the heat on them. They do some sort of crazy dancing, maybe even tai-chi (I'm not so cultured, but I assume it's a spiritual thang) Anyhow, they tend to stomp around and shit -- it get's really annoying. We tried to make a formal complaint with the leasing office, but it seems like the ladies in the office are in favor of the asian couple b/c we're the troublemakers, right?

anyhow we've actualy scheduled times when we are not home w/ all our neighbours, and gone to the lenghts of exchanging phone numbers :S , so in the case that both parties are home and we're being to noisy we can call eachother up to caution that we're around.

^^ the number exchange is a good idea. Especialy if your us, 'cause one more formal noise complaint and we're getting an eviction notice. So it's better that they call us first.

having played in death metal bands growing up we used to get these ALL the time, if the person would come over in person and let us know we would turn it down, if they would be cunts about it we would pop the doors open and turn it up funny how that works.

so funny that you posted this. i just filed my first noise complaint against someone today. it didn't really feel good...i felt like some kind of snitch or something, but really what else can you do?

i know it was a saturday night, but he played gwen stefani from 3-4am at such a loud volume, i could practically hear the lyrics in my room. if you went out in the hallway you could hear the music as clear as if it was playing on the intercom system through his front door. i pounded for like five minutes, but he never answered the door.

so fuckin' annoying, and my room is right next to his. this is the second time it's happened so i decided to do the noise complaint thing this time. sometimes it's all you can do.

I think that the first complaint should be face to face, if they don't care and do it again, complain to the building, then if it still happens, complain to the police.

Myra I remember when our neighbors used to have 2 rotties that were kept in the backyard all the time and they would bark all night long. It was a huge pain in the ass we had to document times and everything for 2 months before somthing was finally done about it.

Hmm... My neighbour across the hall jams with drums. I can even hear it in my room sometimes. Funny enough, though, if I'm sleepy, I can sleep right through it.

I never bother about complaining about noise (despite the fact I normally sleep during the day because of night work) because:

A. I'm a noisy bugger as well.
B. Oak & 70th is noisier than any neighbour could be anyways. If speeding firetrucks screaming their horns can't restle me awake, I don't think noisy neighbours could either.

Strange how my phone on low setting in the other room can still snap me awake, though.
