ppl who have been to shambalah
what did you pack last time?
did you forget anything that you wish you hadn't? would you do anything differently this time around to ensure that you had more fun? can we make this thread sticky so people can give advice to newbie shambalah(ers) on how to have the best time possible? i think that would be great thanks in advance i really want to go, but i'm scared that i wont have as much fun, or that i'll get sick of it after the first night |

pack like you would for a regular car-camping trip.
It's super-hot during the day but it gets pretty cold after the sun goes down so pack accordingly. There's food vedors available 24 hours, but part of the fun is BBQing and stuff. There's even an ATM available on-site. I think hot showers will be available, but they cost money. If you don't mind cold-showers bring soap n stuff. If you want to bathe in the river make sure you use bio-degradable soap. Bring a flashlight - I won't tell you about the horror story of my friend forgetting to bring a flashlight to the outhouse at night and sitting in a mess someone left (ew). As long as you're with friends, I can't see how it wouldn't be fun... The beauty of any camping rave is that if you get tired, you can always go back to your tent to catch some sleep and wake up refreshed the next day with the party still going. Advice is to set up your tent far away enough from the music that it won't disturb you when you |

Trees are your friend. If you can find somewhere to camp amongst them, you'll have a much happier time.
And if the plethora of hippies convinces you that you don't want to bathe in the river, keep heading down the main road... eventually you'll get to a more secluded swimming spot. Bring a sarong! |

if you're coming from vancouver, maybe bring 1 or 2 meals, some dry stuff & snacks - otherwise, just buy food there - it's super good, you don't have to worry about it going bad, and there's no mess to clean.
bring costumes, wigs, or other crazy get-ups - TRUST ME on this one. toilet paper, warm clothes for when the sun goes down, ear plugs for when you want to get some sleep, bathing suit, hiking shoes, and LOTS of friends... :) |

I crotched my mushrooms, kept my weed buried deep in my bag and had my chemicals squared away in a small pouch. They just waved us through. Seriously, though. All they're looking for is bottles. |

on the ride up the road, cover anything that may be in the back (of your truck) or EVERYTHING will have dust on it. try to keep your windows up *you want air conditioning* depending on what day you get there will determin where, and how far away from the stages you will get to camp.... EARLY is best, or you'll be bumper to bumper. there is a general store, that will sell all your essentials, say hi to my moma there folks hahaha and she has an ATM there aswell, CAUTION* there is little service there, so there is many problems with transactions, GET YOUR CASH IN SALMO before you get to Sham.
there are showers... not hot showers... just slightly filtered river water..and its a little dirty at times. If your going to bath in the river, make sure u climb upstream, the beach hippie central, dirt piss shit DOWNstream.. The food is great, it is mostly organic and super healthy tho there have been past problems with food poisoning, some good burgers/some bad. The water pump has been greatly improved so there should be no problem, tho i will not drink the water out of the pump due to past experiences, bring your own bottles if your concerned. It can be deadly hot in the daytime, plus very dusty, least amount of clothing possible... swimsuit all day. at night the tempurature does drop rapidly and it CAN get extreamly cold, be prepared. in your tent, have lots of blankets for when you sleep, dont bundle up too tight tho, cuz when that sun comes up you'll be gasping for fresh air. in my tent, i keep babywhipes or antibacterial hand gel to wash my hands because there is no hot water to freshen up before you take a nap. a Watch is essential, so u dont miss any events. Toilet paper and flash light essential also. Bring everything you think you will need for the beach and a camping trip. they will not search you unless you look sketchy, and try to fill your vehicle so it looks like too much work. The road block is RIGHT OUTSIDE of Salmo Before you turn up the road. the cops are just making sure everyone is safe, they are NOT there to stop the party as the party is LEGAL. so dont be nervous, they know what goes on there ;) other than that just have a good time, your going to be with friends. try to keep an open mind about everyhing you see there, including the nude old hippie men. |

A good durable folding chair is nice to have as well, one that you can toss in the river and chill out in the cool water when it's hot. And as Mofo suggested, bring a flashlight and don't even go near the porta johns at night without it. Some people have really bad aim, and i don't just mean with tha numba 1. |

ok here are the necessary things for shambhala
-water guns -costumes (definately) -tubes (big fukin monster truck tire tubes) -flashlight (its so dark in the trails) -cooler filled with lots and lots of food -a large sheet to block the sun from buring a hole through your tent in the morning (not much shade) -bathing suit (if not going naked) / towels -blankets / lawn chairs -camera / video camera -an old 10 speed bike with a baby seat on the back / go cart / golf cart -frisbee -other activities like board games / scrabble / risk / jacks / pogs.... whatever is your speed and i think the rest goes without saying... - |

for every year i have gone (5 in total), i just tell them what i have, for alcohol, and they say, keep it in the tent and/or trucks, and its fine. if they see you throwing empties away, or walking around will alcohol, they boot you out.
so be smart. tell them what you have, and that you will not drink it in "public". |
