15 reasons NOT to hate Americans.
This was taken from today's (Monday, July 4, 2005)
edition of 24 Hours - page 10 1. We took Bryan Adams off your hands between 1983 and 1992. We've also kept Celine Dion sequestered for the past decade or so. 2. If you look at the real numbers, far more Americans than Canadians don't like George Bush. 3. We still buy truckloads of your wood, beer and pot. 4. We still sell your truckloads of wood, beer and pot. 5. We don't like them French speakers either. 6. Two words: Angelina Jolie 7. You're right, we don't know where your provinces are or what they are called. But we also don't know ours. 8. We admit we took hockey, made it fat, ruined its finances, moved it to the sun belt and killed it. (Here's a secret though: we've done the same to our parents for years). And we want you to know we've learned our lesson. Curling is yours, unbesmirched, forever. 9. That multi million-dollar industry manufacturing little Maple Leaf patches and pins? Totally funded by paranoid backpacking Yanks abroad. 10. Given that Candian culture and ethos is, at its essence, an endless discussion of how it is different (read: better) than America, where would you be without us? Embrace the perpetual positive comparison. Eu- ropeans love you mainly because you sit next to us, your evil twin. 11. We bought all that Roots crap, OK? What do you want from us? 12. There's no shortage of common ground: We share the same primary language, cars, fashion, pioneering spirit and dis- eased beef. 13. Honestly, we didn't notice that you hated us. We also didn't notice when you liked us. 14. Americans have always rushed to embrace avant garde, groundbreaking Canadian artists such as ... um ... well ... give us a sec here... 15. We put Texas and Florida as far away as we could. Mike Lewis is a reporter with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Have any other reasons not to hate Americans? E-mail them to us at [email protected] |

i've always argued this
"Given that Candian culture and ethos is, at its essence, an endless discussion of how it is different (read: better) than America, where would you be without us? Embrace the perpetual positive comparison. Eu- ropeans love you mainly because you sit next to us, your evil twin." werd. |

First of all, even if that gets America off the hook for being hated by us, the rest of the world still thinks they're shit. Is that an inferiority complex as well? This argument comes off sounding like the fat skank on Maury Povich screaming at the crowd that they hate her because "Y'ALL ARE JUST JEALOUS!" and not because her shorts are binding up her ass crack. I mean come ON. If anything, it's a superiority complex. Secondly, my reasons for hating Americans, (or, more specifically, their current government, the Republican party and neo-cons in general, and the morons who support them), are my own. I would have them whether I was Canadian, English, Australian, Swedish, Icelandic, or Luexombourgian. I don't need a nationality to define my disdain, just an ounce of common sense. The cry of inferiority complex drives me nuts. If all the other nations of the world are, underneath it all, threatened by the US's superiority when it comes to money, fame, and power, then I guess all the people of the world share an inferiority complex regarding Paris Hilton. Right? |

Doesn't matter if you love them or hate them - bottom line, they are cousins and to this day so many people have American relatives. |

''so cause im french you think I was prevelaged?'' I totaly doubt it, I lived in Quebec And I don't think I received any treatments way fare from that........Plus Winters are much much harder...And Shopping are often very expensive for the salaries that we get, compared to what I lived in Ontario&Alberta...And Actualy I think the ones that had the special treaments in 17th, 18th& 19th century was the English part of Canada, Quebec was poor cause of who? yes, I think you know... So If you wanna blame someone you might wanna blame the leaders not the citizens.... Yes, I know....What can I do about it? I don't even like the idea of Goverment anyway (Never voted) I don't take it personal But Juging people by there Skins/Languages is the same for me...I consider that being racist....And that is shocking, a specialy when you hear that on fucken American national TV Shows...So You can keep that to your self if its the case Last edited by maztraz; Jul 04, 05 at 10:34 PM. |

it just seems like alot of canadians have this huge insecurity about how we are compared to the united states. if we are proud of who we are why do we have to always compare and measure ourselves and our country relative to someone/something else? relative comparisions of that nature are typically steming from some sort of feelings of insecurity/inferiority. the truly confident people that i know dont say things like "oh, im better Looking, smarter, make more money etc, then so and so." they say things like "Im really good at this." "im the best." Last edited by SEAN!; Jul 05, 05 at 12:54 AM. |

Yeah...Actualy I think its strange the way English part takes french people sometimes, I remenber some people bitching and all just cause They heard I was french(Even tho I had no accent), and some that loved french people.... And thats when I wonder if Quebec is still part of this country or not... Anyway I think we should be considered as one big country...not as two seperate parts of the country...We should react like brothers&sisters, Not like kids in a school yard fighting over the playground... I have, in the past, exercised my right not to vote when I felt there was no candidate I wished to vote for. I still say I maintain my right to bitch, because I still fucking pay my taxes. Just because you abstain to vote doesn't make you any less a citizen. |
