I always like Jet Li in Fist of Legend - the remake of Chinese Connection. Got one of the best 1 on 1 fights ever in the middle of the movie when Jet Li takes on this Karate master.

There is no question that this is the best martial arts movie EVER. For pure hand to hand combat, complexity of forms, decent story line/acting... it rules.

Bruce Lee is dope but Jet Li... that dude is amazing.

the new legend of shaolin

I agree jet li is the bomb, not feeling a lot of his cheesy hollywood shit, but he's had some amazing stuff come out of china.

The guy was a monk for crying out loud. His discipline and skills would even exceed that of bruce lee.

Some of these aren't really true kung fu movies, but still good nevertheless. My list of fun martial arts movies:

Ong Bak (not kung fu, but damn)
Azumi
Drunken Master
Volcano High (hilariously over the top that it's good)
Kung Fu Hustle
Shaolin Soccer

There's more but I can't quite think of them right now.

I personally found House of Flying Daggers to be weak. It was just so dry. Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro have way better movies.

then why do they cheap out so much when they film fighting scenes... quick cuts, and moving camera's. all i think when i see his movies, is that it looks like it's totally fake.

That's cause western directors don't know how to film good kung-fu scenes. I'll lend you some of my DVDs of his older stuff from China and then let me know what you think...

No, I just thought it could have been a lot better. I wasn't expecting a lot of fighting, and to be honest, the only thing it really had going for it was pretty visual effects. It's just eye-candy. The cast was pretty solid, but do they have to cast Zhang Ziyi for every Asian epic movie? I'm just spoiled when it comes to Asian cinema.

If you like Asian epics, Musa: The Warrior is decent.
Slightly unrelated but My Wife is a Gangster is a decent yakuza, fighting, comedy movie.

Totally agree with Myra here. Dude is crazy talented and a wu-shu/kung fu master. My buddies sifu used to train him years back.
