there're only 2 types of hard disk ipods to choose from.
mini - $249 4GB / $319 6GB ipod (white) - $379 20GB if ur travelin, then best bang for the buck is the $379 one cuz the mini don't come w/ a charger. that's a ~$50 item. ps. 20GB ipod (white) is $345 w/ student discount. Last edited by stephen_c; Jul 06, 05 at 01:11 AM. |

ipod (white) - $349 20gb like stephen_c said with educational discounts. not sure how to do this nor do u apply to this discount? no matter, pm for instructions. I had the shuffle but sold it and now im using the 20gb one. I have no problem and im oving it. Only thing I would like is for it to have a longer battery life. You get roughly 8 hours per charge. If 4 or 6gb is more then enough for you then i say just go with that. There is no need to get a 20gb if you cant even fill like half of it. But i hate how the mini looks and i dont like the fact they dont have the traditional apple white color to choose. |

there are options when thinking about an mp3 player
~5gb: creative zen micro; i have one, other than 1 problem its been good to me (and lots of mp3 players have problems), no color screen but ~10hr battery life. plus the battery is removable unlike an ipod so when it dies you can replace it without sending the unit in. $299 PLUS $40USD rebate right now iRiver's are nice, color screen for photos also, $330 ~20gb Olympus M:Robe 20GB has a color, touch screen, no buttons, and has a built in 1.22megapixel camera, $500 creative zen touch; touchpad for easy navigation, $330 research your options online, just because everyone and their mother has an ipod that doesnt mean they're the best |

I have a 20 gig and love it. The only problem is its too small, so I'm buying the 60 ipod photo once I sell this one. As far as the mini's go, I know 3 people who have them and they all came with chargers.
If you have a digital camera, get one of the white ipods since they are all photo capable now. for an extra 30 - 35 dollars you can get an adapter to download your camera to the ipod and view the pictures. Or you can wait, motorola is releasing an itunes phone shortly, possibly even tomorrow. |

i'm not going to repeat the same points as everyone else. But whatever you do, make sure you buy the extended warranty. I've yet to have technical problems buts with headphones, ive had them replaced 3 times hassle free.
If you don't mind changing all the music on you ipod because it is always full, then you shouldn't need anything bigger than a mini. However ive yet to delete anything off mine and still have 8g to fill. I also don't have a problem with my 20g being too big for things like the gym or running. I have a sturdy case with a clip and if i was too be soo picky about the size, i'd go buy a shuffle as well for the gym. In all honestly, best $400 i've spent in a long time. |

iPod comes in two sizes. 20 GB and 40GB. Depends on how many songs you have it for. Finally iPod Photo I do believe is 60GB. Beats me why you need so memory but meh still useful. Also check out www.ipodlounge.com for accessories. Quote:
Same as any mp3 Player you have on your computer you leave it on the "Shuffle" mode than your player would just randomly pick songs for ya without you having to worry what goes on next. I have read some awesome reviews for the Shuffle but meh. I have an iPod mini myself. I need to format my computer though :( Quote:
What's a 2G you maybe asking? Well iPod mini has it's 1st Generation and 2nd Generation. The First Generation apparently doesn't have as long of a battery life as the 2nd Generation. Also the 1st Generation came with a charger while the 2nd generation doesn't. I dont' know why apple would do such a thing but in the end this gadget is on the streets everywhere in Vancouver. Second of all the back of your iPod will have it's Memory size. EG, if you bought a 4GB mini iPod than your iPod will have 4GB on the back of it in a bubble box. I don't suggest getting a second hand iPod for many reasons. Last edited by -DLO_604-; Jul 06, 05 at 12:31 PM. |

the ipod 40 gig hasn't been made for a while. it was replaced with a 30 gig ipod photo which was also discontinued recently.
the only ipods available now are 20g and 60g both with colour screens. They are no longer called the ipod photo. |

My friend just got a iPod Mini 4 Gb and it's nice. Made from a flat tube of aluminum with rounded edges, no screws or battery access door, solid but not too heavy, same weight as a small cellphone.
The sound is good, apparently a bit better than the previous model. The standard earphones have some bass :) |

My $.02:
Listen to Leviathan. He knows what he's talking about. If you plan on taking a digital camera, the new color 20gb or the 60gb models would be the best choice seeing as you can use the iPod photo adaptor to transfer and store your photos (you plug it into the end of the iPod and then plug the USB cable from the camera into the adaptor). With the introduction of the new color 20gb, that and the 60gb has an improved battery life of up to 15 hours, comes with a USB 2.0 cable, headphones and a power adaptor (you can also buy the iPod Travel kit for $50 which has every conceivable international plug adaptor you would ever need for travelling). I've been watching the iPod's growth and change for over 2 years now, so I consider myself to be fairly well informed...If you have any questions, you can hit me up on MSN. :) |
