there have been other villains with that purpose in mind, although I never quite understood it because of the whole lack of self-preservation.. I don't think any real villain would ever go after such a thing.

How bout the Planet eating guy from Transformers the movie? I believe his name was 'Unicron'... and did you know that Orson Welles actually did the voice for him, officially his last movie.
