How did you like it better? Is it LESS funny because other people think it's funny? I don't get it.... |

Like you said in another post... biggest generator of catch phrases since The Simpsons. Are classic Simpsons episodes less funny to you now because people use those phrases? I don't think so. You're one statement can be used on boths ides of this argument "Dave Chapelle is funny, you are not" Well that catch phrase guy isn't funny.... but Dave and his skits still are. Time for me to insert MY catch phrase.... just for the hell of it! COCAINE IS A HELL OF A DRUG! |

That it makes the skits less funny by proxy is exactly what I'm NOT saying. The skits' objective comedic value should be judged on how you felt about them when you were first introduced to them, or that 2nd or 3rd viewing when you found a bunch of other hilarious stuff that you missed the first time cuz you were laughing too hard. Take a classic episode from the Simpsons in their golden era, the one where Bart joins the boy scouts. The episode is genius, like pretty much every ep from that era. It will always be genius. That's just written in stone. But Shawn, if that was on TV right now, I might watch it (god knows it's probably better than anything else on), but I'm not going to bust a gut at those jokes. Why? Because I could practically recite them word for word. What the fuck do I mean, "practically"?? It's just a case of basic familiarity, nothing more, nothing less. The first time I heard "I'm Rick James, bitch!", it was damn funny. But after a while, whether it's from hearing the man himself deliver it on my DVD player, or hearing it outside of that environment, that shit will lose its edge. It's no-one's fault, it's just the way it is. Forever classic, yes. Forever funny (in the "will it make me laugh now" sense)... no. |
