What you need to do:
1) Get rid of all the spyware that you have on your PC right now. Use the following programs, a few times each, but then only keep the one that you like the most (because they all find different things and have different results): - Ad-Aware SE 1.06 - Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 - Spyware Doctor 3.2 2) Go to CNET's Spyware Center website and educate yourself a bit more on spyware and how you can prevent it from happening in the future. 3) Now that your system is clean - it is time to get Firefox (best goddamn web browser on the planet). Download the latest version of Firefox (v1.0.4) HERE. After you install Firefox and get used to it - that means you're absolutely NOT allowed to use Internet Explorer (IE) anymore. Remove any IE shortcuts that you might have on your desktop, quick launch, start menu, etc. if that will make you forget IE. But whatever you do - make sure you never use IE again. 4) Go to the Firefox Extensions website and get the NoScript and Adblock extensions. You won't have a single popup (9.9 out of 10 times) and won't have a single bad script or ad running on your browser. 5) As an extra security measure, you could get yourself the latest version of ZoneLab's free firewall "ZoneAlarm" or the pay version of Symantec's "Norton Internet Security 2005". Those programs do a very good job of silently protecting your PC while it's running. I hope this helps! If I messed up any of the links, let me know. I use to run Ad Aware by itself but now I use both...First I scan with Ad Aware and Ewido after and I find that Ewido finds way more shit thats infected! for a trial version my friend you can get at www.download.com. It says a free 14day trial but I've had mine for about a month now and still not registration required! hope this helps and good luck

^There's also some stuff you can do to make Firefox run faster! Another added bonus!
1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. 2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests " to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now. |

Make absolutely sure you have all Windows Updates - specifically Service Pack 2, which included the patch for ridding Spy-ware Pop-ups back in Nov. 2004. Then do a sweep with Ad-Aware AND Microsoft Anti-Spyware back and forth until no items are detected. If it still detects items remove them manually ensuring that nothing bad is left in your Registry, System 32 file or Cookie cache.
