Yes it gets packed. A lot of people get there before noon and stay there all day. Unless you're in a really small group, or unless you have friends saving you a spot I suggest you go EARLY.

As for vodka, I don't know if things have changed, but basically, just keep it in a bag, and then later on when it's dark, drink. The beach will be so packed no one will really care, and most people are either getting drunk or getting stoned.
