Little dogs - fashion accessories?
WTF is with people buying these tiny little toy poodles and other such tiny dogs and walking around like their fashion accessories? Trying to be another Paris? I hate this. I truely do. 80% of these dogs will be in the SPCA after the fad wears off. And they put little fucking boots and coats on them in the middle of summer?
I laugh at the guys who have to take their girlfriends toy poodle for a walk, downtown. Poor suckers. I guess that's what you get for loving a stuck up, money grubbing, paris wannabe huh? I've actually said shit to people before, like "*coughParisWannabecough*" and, "nice accessory dog!". I actually feel sorry for the lil buggars you know? Being dragged around in 28 degree heat by someone who could give a shit about the dog, but is more worried about weither it's little coat matches her handbag. My 2 centablos. It truely disgusts me. |

ya...the whole little pup thing has gone overboard, and some of the little dogs are so ugly. they're like rats on leashes. haha but i confess, i do like it when i see 250 pound macho men walking around with a mini dog clutched in their arms...cause thats just cute. but besides that...the fads just silly
dogs are not objects, they're human beings! |

Not ALL people with little dogs treat them like an accessory.
Sure, my pup has a couple of cute get-ups, and when the weather gets cold I'll buy her some sweaters, but it's REALLY just because I love her and want to spoil her! I take her out with me because I don't want to leave her at home alone - I'm sure she likes it a lot more being allowed to walk around Robson/S.Granville/W4th with me than she does sitting at home doing nothing while I'm out! I do agree that SOME people treat their small dogs like accessories, but don't grossly generalize. You could also blame the breeders/pet stores who sell their dogs to people they haven't screened extensively. |

i got my dog the most hideous doggy sweater for the winter - the snow tends to matt her hair and its alot easier to put that on then deal with the matts. she also sometimes gets socks taped to her feet if its super icey because the salt on the ground can be really drying to her little puppy pads - shes had them be so dry they cracked and bled one year.
but thats all the clothes my doggy gets. p.s. isnt she cute? |

my dogs have always had accessories..like raincoats, jackets, and sweaters..and booties..cuz one of them has paw allergies...
i hate how some dogs are treated like objects but all accessory dog owners..that i know..absolutely love their dogs... i hope the ones who treat their dogs like objects..take care of their dogs as if they were an expensive purse or something..ya know?..it'll be sad when the fad ends..maybe i'll adopt 5... and yes..i would love to have a tiny tiny puppy to put in my pocket...i want it smaller then a purse puppy..i saw people playing with one that tiny at the beach yesterday..adorable.. |

i figure that if ppl spend so much money to buy something and get accessories for them..that they will treasure them...u wouldn't see someone leaving or throwing their $1500 purse around..ya know?..and animals are different..they can make u love them...unless ur a cold hearted jackass..but there are jackasses in the world.. |

She's a PUPPY and she weighs 7lbs, so she'll be around 12-14lbs full grown. Small, but not tiny. The "tiny" dogs you are referring to are the Paris-type chihuahuas that weigh no more than 3-4lbs and can be carried in one's purse! Did it ever occur to you that MAYBE we have small dogs because for us to get big dogs it would be ridiculously unfair to them? Maybe we live in apartments, or don't have time to take a big dog on a 2 hour run every day? Maybe we buy our dogs sweaters because they get COLD in the fall/winter, and have cute collars and leashes because we'd rather our pups be cute than ugly? My pup is a Havanese, native to Cuba, so her coat is not ideal for cold and rainy winter/fall conditions, and without a jacket/sweater she would freeze and her soft, delicate hair would mat like crazy. Instead of talking about the people who love their dogs enough to spoil them rotten, let's talk about the REAL problem which is IMO assholes who buy dogs and leave them chained up in their back yard during all types of nasty, harsh weather. But that's OK right, 'cause they're "guard dogs"? Last edited by galaxie; Aug 03, 05 at 12:14 PM. |

i used to have a 120 pound aikita - he was such a teddy bear. the only accessories he had were his leash and his collar because he ddint need help staying warm, his hair never matted and his paws were not sensitive.
we lived in a townhouse, and were told that because he was the runt of the little he would be no larger then 60 pounds.... so the only thing we could do to be fair to him was give him to somebody with massive amounts of property. we moved, and got a small dog due to things like traveling (going camping, ect.) she fits in the car alot easier, and she doesnt need to be walked twice a day. i admit my dog has a pretty cute collar with daisies on it, but she was attacked by raccoons, and her old collor had blood stains all over it and having survived the attack we got her something pretty. and as i have stated previously we have purchased other things for her - the socks we put on her feet was actually something the vet told us to do. i agree with galaxie - people who get dogs to simply gaurd them, or lock them outside without a shelter for them to be under is what should be looked down on. dogs are not really creatures that are meant to live alone - naturally they want to be in packs. granted ALOT of their natural instinct has been bread out of them, but i find dogs that either have "playmates" or live inside\are with their human counterparts alot tend to have a happier disposition. however, a dog shouldnt be a statement. a dog should be a pet, commrad if you will, someone or something you love with as much might as you can muster. but im not vet nor a dog expert, and alot of this is speculation. |
