Do Not Drill
|
|

Considering they can effectivley drill with minimal if ANY effect on the local environment there's no way I'd sign this.
As much as I hate the fact that we need it.... we need it. I'll take cheaper gas anyday! If I honestly felt that there would be major environmental implications to this I'd glady sign/pay more but with today's standards i'm plenty comfortable with them doing it. |

Got this email today:
In July, when WWF-Canada launched our Do Not Drill campaign, we had two goals. One was to get 40,000 signatures on a petition asking Prime Minister Paul Martin to speak out on the U.S. plans to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The other goal was to have the Prime Minister make that statement publicly. Because of you, we blew the doors off both of those goals! Here's what has happened since you signed your petition: * To date, we have more than 71,000 signed petitions that have been delivered to Mr. Martin. * We've personally met with Mr. Martin, along with a few other prominent Canadian conservationists. * On August 12, the Minister of Environment, Stéphane Dion, made a public statement in opposition to drilling in ANWR. * On August 23, Mr. Martin himself publicly reaffirmed the Canadian government's opposition to this drilling. * We've personally met with Frank McKenna, our ambassador to the U.S., in Washington. He has also personally met with key members of Congress and continues to do so. * We participated in a massive rally in Washington, attended also by Robert Kennedy Jr., John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, to speak out against drilling in ANWR. As you may know, the vote that may allow drilling in ANWR has been delayed. Until then, we will be anxiously waiting, along with all of you, to hear the outcome. Please check for updates in the news and on donotdrill.ca. In the meantime, regardless of the outcome of the vote, together we have much to be proud of. We've truly made a difference on this issue. You have our deepest gratitude. On behalf of WWF-Canada, wildlife and wild spaces, Mike Russill |

Very good thread.
I really hope something is done to stop the oil pigs.
71,000 seems like alot but really it should be Millions. These kinds of issues really need more attention. Big Ups to Roxybebe. I'm more concerned with saving the environment than giving swine jobs. Wowee you can pay your rent and feed your family @ the expense of nature. Sometimes human arrogance/ignorance still amazes me, sometimes. I'm signing this and so is anyone I know. |

I havn't gone over this article much but....
We need oil Being a part of we: I need oil. If it's a question of not drilling and making fuel to expensive to drive; i'll take driving any day. I'm just being a realist, we fight wars for oil because it's so important. I'd like to see it done with minimal damage to nature, but in the final equation I know it still needs to be done. If you're completely against drilling then I suggest you show it by giving up your vehicle. |

^ The technology for Oil Drilling today has advanced to such a point that it isn't as terribly messy as it used to be. They've been drilling in the North Sea for a long time now and have been working on making the least environmental impact as possible.
I'm all for drilling off the Coast of BC... the Arctic, not as much because of the delicate area. |
