I'm guessing you're using IE?
For hotmail: go to Tools->Internet Options In General: Delete Cookies Delete Files (it'll pop up, put a checkmark in "delete all offline content") Clear History In Security: Go to each of the sections at the top (Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted Sites and Restricted sites) and reset each to their "Default Level"s In privacy: Go into the "sites" button if you're in XP-SP2, "Edit" anything else and make sure there are no blocked sites there that are unwarranted (hit "Remove All" for the quick-n-dirty fix) In Content: Go into Autocomplete, click "Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords" XP Only: Click "Clear SSL state" In Advanced: Click "Restore Defaults" Then remove the checkmark from "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)" Restart your computer. Then, go to start-run and put in each of the following commands (NT, XP and 2k only): regsvr32 softpub.dll regsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dll If you're running XP-SP2, do this following command as well: iexplore.exe /rereg Try hotmail again. As for messenger, go into your firewall (if you have one - and you should) and make sure it's allowing MSN Messenger full access. If you're still getting the same problem, remove messenger from add/remove programs and reinstall it: Go to the messenger website Click on "download now" go to the bottom of the page and click on "Download/Install Later" Save it to your desktop when it finishes downloading, double-click the "Install_MS..." icon on there (it will expand to INSTALL_MSN_MESSENGER_70 or something like that). |

Oh yeah. Make sure you have adequate anti-spyware as well and that you're frequently running sweeps (once weekly at least, twice weekly recommended).
The combination I always recommend: Ad-aware Spybot Microsoft Antispyware Links for all of those here |

Yeah. I think there was a recent IE update. We've been seeing a lot of these secure sites issues at work. People do everything and it's still being a pain.
Basically there's two more things I can think of. The first is, are you using Norton Internet Security as a firewall? It's been known to block secure sites. (I think it's under custom privacy settings.... I really am not too certain what the exact steps are though) The second is that you can try creating a new profile (XP I assume?) and try again. Might have been some update that corrupted the profiles. Go to the control panel, go to User Accounts and create a new Administrative profile. See if it does the same thing. If it does, IE is pooched. I've troubleshooted enough. On with the zealotry! Trust me. Stuff like this gets fixed way faster in Firefox. (It's so nice that I can recommend that here.)
