Classical Musician at Large
So I've never done drugs of any kind, but I figure I'd put my $0.02 in anyways.
Early baroque in general would be fairly good to remix, due to the frequent use of continuo, and generally constant tempo. Also Rennaisance. Drunken conducting is fun. IF I were to get chemically altered, I'd have to say Musorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition; Debussy - Afternoon of a Fawn; Oh, prolly Bach - Fugue in E minor. And I do agree with Holst, and good Ol' Pytr Ill'ych... JRY&c. |

man i think schubert is a f'in genius. i really wonder what was going through his mind and in his life when he composed ave maria....
i really like the baroque period stuff as well... especially bach's violin pieces. vivaldi has some great violin pieces as well. mozart was great.. the light hearted stuff he put out has such a unique character to em.... but i always loved the romantic period the most. beethoven, chopin, debussey, schubert.... just amazing. also a big big fan of dvorak's heavy epic symphonic sound... gotta love it when the french horns start blaring and the typani is just banging! |

Schubert
Schubert was an unfortunate character of Music History... Chronic Depression, nicknamed "the mushroom".... But he did have some cool friends who would throw huge parties called "schubertiads" to cheer him, and only play his music.
The Crazyness of it all.... |

the Universality of Music throughout Civilization
Since its earliest inception, humanity as a whole has been infused with music. From Primitive man beating rocks together in a tribal rhythm for both ceremonial and pleasurable reasons, to the extravagances of the romanticism. Musicologists routinely agree that modern music is throughly influenced by prior forms. To say that DnB isnt fostered by even the most basic forms of early music is to say literally that you were born as you are now, yesterday.
We may take for granted the geniuses that have passed before us, from Guido who decided, hey lets write this out using 5 lines instead of one, to Berlioz, who seemed to like orphiclides for some reason, or Wagner, who said, "Cadence, I dont need your stinking Cadence"; Yet in all, there is, like posts in a forum, a common start, A similarity, an influence, if you will. the Liniage may not be direct, or clear, but it exists. Questions? |

I disagree, particularly on the issue of Western music as a whole. Perhaps I have exaggerated in longevity for effect, but for example, basic chord structure was developed in the middle ages, and has remained more or less unchanged before the influence of Eastern/Atonal/Quarter Tonal music. And Victorian culture was thoroughly enamoured with Egyptian Society, if not in all practice.

as for trance having alot of classical influence, i'm not comparing anything but you can't deny alot of uplifting trance has a great amount of classical influence. and the amazing feeling you get from such beautiful music arguably makes trance on the top consistantly. and if you can't understand that, you don't know the real joy of music that is purely pleasuable to listen to. i know there are too many shit trance tracks but i would never go as far as dog the entire genre. |
