george bush works for his constituents.
this is not a a race issue, its classism. it's a stewardess serving champagne to first class while everyone in coach wants their peanuts. trying to say this was a concious effort to keep a minority down is a disservice to the entire relief effort. i don't think anyone thought about this until it was too late, and if they did, it wasnt judged important enough to put effort into. americans in poverty are not part of this economic equation. money is invested to reap returns, not to create a larger welfare state. these people, black and white, were unfortunately left off the radar. i suppose it's up to the individual to determine whether this is right or wrong. |

Hi everyone read this. Just because Kanye said it doesn't mean it's not completely fucking stupid. While all these people are sitting around whining about race this and race that and this is what is wrong with everything, they could be proactive and help out or devise better solutions. A professional football player from the Atlanta Falcons went on the news and instead of pulling the race card, he told every professional football player to donate $5000 to the red cross, etc. That is proactive. The time to reflect on everything and criticize everything can come later, for now, these people who are affected need action, they need help. Why doesn't Kanye go right to where it's bad and help some people out? |

^^ Bullshit.
The US gov't knew for a WEEK that the hurricane was headed straight for New Orleans and they did NOTHING in advance. Pick up a copy of today's Vancouver Sun - 4 years ago there was a documentary done that predicted this entire problem. IMO, if the US gov't kept it's effing troops where they belong and OUT of countries like Iraq they would have enough manpower to remedy this situation. Alas, Bush is a fucking idiot, so no such luck for the citizens of New Orleans. |

The US gov't should pick up the tab for the relief efforts. If they didn't spend so much goddamn money on their military they might actually have some left over for emergencies. As for everyone else who's donating money - ever think of sponsoring a child? Donating to charities like World Vision? |

It's all Very Complicated and Political

military emergencies. Full scale war with China,N Korea ect ect Countries like China are working hard to "increase" their military spending to a degree where they can be on par with the U.S I'm just saying, there are a lot of sharks out there and countries have to be ready to deal with them. |

My main point, to clarify, was that this is not a race issue, but one of economics. Whether or not the issue was accidentaly overlooked or intentionally ignored is a much more difficult question. I would hazard a little bit of both. That is, officials probably thought it wouldn't be as bad as it turned out to be, but also underestimated the outrage that followed. The former is probably related to things such as the increased residence on formerly unpopulated outskirts and the levee breaking. The latter probably because of declining govt approval ratings, and polarization due to racial issues being raised. Personally I think everyone is really scared of dying lately. |

The US spends so much on it's own interests in other places, while they can't even fix the social problems in their own country or provide proper aid for this disaster. |
