Been to Hawaii?
have you been?
I need to know more, like..which island is the best to spend a week on, where is good to stay, where to avoid, etc! I kind of want to know the nicest places to stay in terms of quiet off the beaten path types, so any info would be very helpful! thanks! |

Or it might not. Probably the latter. |

If its your first time to Hawaii then I’d say just got to Oahu. Yeah its touristy but there lots to do there. There are also places that are not very touristy at all.
I'd recommend staying in Waikiki and renting a moped or a car so you can travel around to the other side of the island to hang out on the beaches there. Way more relaxing and less tourists there. Hanuma Bay is awesome well worth the time to travel over to. Another thing you might want to do there is check out the Polynesian cultural center. Last edited by DJDeeb; Sep 06, 05 at 11:08 PM. |

Myra, when I stayed in Maui it was busy but more laid back and quieter. We would just sneak on to private hotel beaches which had less people. As long as you didn't try and use their pools and whatnot it was fine. We stayed in a condo type thing a little ways a way for some peace and quiet. When I was in Waikiki it was just too loud and party oriented, granted I wasn't able to enjoy as I wasn't of age. I also found the beaches kinda dirty from overuse.
But really, it's going to be a great vacation no matter where you stay. HAVE FUN! |

my parents just got back from two weeks on maui. they're only complaint was that it was extremely expensive. they stayed in a condo so baught all their food and goods and it was litterally $7 for a gallon of milk.
they did everything you can do in maui on the tourist aspect - including the hike up the big mountain that starts with an "h" to watch the sunrise. thoroughly enjoyed all the touristy things in hawaii. one comment that does stand out from my dad though is that he felt like he was in california - with mcdicks and all the retail stores. didnt enjoy very much of that. one good thing that they found out though was that the hawaiians are taking a full force stand now against america - well as best of a stand anyone can make against them - in reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. (dont know if you know the hawaii history, but its pretty fucking rediculous) and i believe one island is actually now only inhabited and only allowed to inhabited by native hawaiians. anyways, even though i've never been, i'd much rather go to the smaller less known islands. if theres one thing i leanred from mexico is that the smaller the town you go to, the better it is. p.s. i would also go to cuba instead of hawaii. |

i enjoyed hawaii, it's hard not too. i dont really like the idea of supporting america by travelling there, but since my opinion really doesnt count for much ill probably be back there this spring in maui.
i went too each of the islands this summer and personally i liked Nawiliwili, Kauai the best as it appeared to be the least commercial. I thought it was the most beuatiful for sure, it's lush and very green (jungle like). i'd stay the hell out of Oahu(Honolulu), its dirty and busy, reminded me of a mini LA. |

Myra,
I've been to Maui and Oahu. Depends what you want. If you want a non- plasticy/touristy off the beaten path then Maui is definitely the place. I can tell you some stories of mine there. One of the best days of my life. Where the nude beach is (it's wicked). Aim for going on a full moon for the full moon beach all night party on that very same nude beach (called Little Beach). Talk to ya on MSN later tonight. L |
