You can hike up around Lynn Canyon and Lynn Valley headwaters, grouse mountain, you can go down into Deep cove and get lost in the foresty areas around Cory Rock or you can find some trails around the parks near Park and tilford. Look on a tourism site for North Vancouver, they will give you all the nice places. You might just be better to go around and explore :D

The best hike on the North Shore that is the same endurance as Lynn Valley is Mt Seymour
Drive right up to the parking lot and follow the trail to the top! You get to the top of the world and an awsome view that expands forever |

^The Chief is really cool you'll like it
It's a short hike, straight up hill but once you near the top you'll be on the edge of a rock face There's actually 3 different peaks up there you can climb More than likely you'll be going to the first peak, the lowest on the right but don't let the picture fool ya, it's still pretty intense up there |

yup for sure! There's a lot of stairs at first and then a really well built trail right to the top. It'll be very busy on Saturday and you'll even notice 10 year olds whipping by ya! haha
You'll be ut of breathe at times cause it does get pretty steep. But the hike in general is pretty short so you'll be fine. My best advice is keep a steady pace, evn if it's slow rather than lots of breaks. Breaks make your heart rate go from high to low, then you start hiking and the rate goes up again, the you break and it goes back down etc Try and only take 2 short breaks on the way to the top, and drink lots of water The water is clean in the creek so you can fill your water bottle in there. I've been doing that for years. Very fresh and very cold, I love it. Just remember to fill your bottle around the begining or middle of the stairs, after that you won't be able to |

if you havnt hiked the chief before .. its a pretty sweet hike.... but i dont like the fact of all the people everywhere... and in my opinion the trail sucks ... to rocky and to many steps and shit.... When i went i had to stop every 10 mins to let people pass and stuff like that.....
a good hike is one where you are alone and no one is around for miles ...... except your hiking buddy.... thats why deeks lake is a sweet hike..... . most of the trail is a nice steady incline with very little rocks and shit to climb over... last time i went ididnt see one person the whole day... and when you get to the lake if you yell really loud there is a pretty sweet echo.. fuck .. i wanna go there before the year is over |

i'm hiking the chief because the friend i'm going with lives in squamish. although, i guess since he's driving to north van to pick me up, we could go anywhere... |

deeks lake is in between horseshoe bay and brittania beach....... you just park on the side of the hyway in a pull out.. then hit the trail... there are two entrances to the trail.. one side requires you to climb up rock and roots.... you have to use your hands and feet.. its fun...... and ihavnt done the other entrance.. but i believe its a well maintained gravel path for part of the way....... most of the trail is a steady incline with a few steep parts... ups and downs.. through the thick of the forrest... by a few water falls... it is really an amazing trail to the lake....
i want to do it again... sunday the 24th i am planning a hike... or saturday ...... ur are more than welcome to join |

Diva if I would you I would start at a place like the chief and if you enjoy it try other trails such as Deeks Lake. Deeks lake is a long (but much much nicer hike) but you and your friend should gain some experience before you go up.
It's easy to get lost and there's no help around if needed The chief is 100 times better than The Grouse Grind. In fact (sorry Aki) The grind sucks. It's worst and most over rated overpopulated hike in BC It's a good work out but you climb steep, and grind your way out of breathe being trampled on by hikers with Starbucks cups in there hands just to reach a tourist attraction and a vew of Vancouver |

i guess i wasn't paying attention to the post...you said "hikes"
it is a trail, but it's really more a workout then a nice, non threatening hike, because you're pretty much walking straight up a mountain! a good hike is going through the Cleveland dam and walking around the trails in there...you can end up near the fish hatchery and suspension bridge areas. these are not really hikes either, but they are sweet trails to go for a nice walk or take your dog in for a run. |
