Moving!
So I move into a new townhouse complex on October 31/05. I have been living with my brother and his children for the last year and I have an idea of what it is like to live on my own but I figured the more advice I get the better.
Anyways. Is there anything im prone to forget? Give me some info that I may not have. Any info regarding everything from what Kitchen supplies I should have that I may not think about to the best smelling air freshners. best cleaning supplies, ways I can steal my neighbors wife, etc. also any new homeowner websites would be great. |

your first grocery shopping trip will be killer because you need basics like spices and the like, plan for at least 2 bills
dont buy good furniture until you come up with an idea for designing the place start stealing coathangers now if you have space and an extra 400 bucks, buy a deep freeze from london drugs eating for one is hard, make sure all of your meals can be leftovered for a couple of days be careful when buying vegetables because a lot of the time they will go bad before you use all of them |

yes I did. Remember that infinity place I posted a couple months back? My dad thought it wouldve been a shitty investment and his realtor agreed so he got the deposit back. Which is good b//c that apartment cost alot of money and was 900 sq ft this townhouse is about 500 sq ft bigger and hundred thousand dollars cheaper. actually shawn I figured you may be the best person to talk to about this since you just moved into a place. |

You might not even have to buy furniture... We have yet to buy any furniture and our palce is full o' couches and shit. Ask around, people always have stuff they're looking to get rid of, we may even have a few things kicking around. Ill have a look for you when I get home.
ps. where are you moving to?? |

More than anything make sure you know all your expenses that'll need to be covered!!!
Stuff like your home insurance and lawyer's fees, although I'm sure that's the one thing that you might have taken care of already. Be aware of all the connection fees for your utilities like hydro and phone (if you're getting one), cable.... that sort of thing. Is you're mortgage monthly or bi-weekly? |
|
|||
monthly.
the house is 1 year old and theres people in there right now so are the connection fees as high as they would be for a new home? And Ryan my parents are giving me alot of there furniture which is kewl. 84th and 159th in beautiful surrey! |

The connection fees are pretty standard as far as I know whether the home is brand new or not. Cable is usually a $40 hook up charge, the same for Telus I believe, and I think hydro is $30 but don't quote me on those prices though, I could be off. You'll learn a lot all on your own.... budgeting is your number 1 priority I'd say. |

yayyy matt! ive already gone through little minor problems like having difficulties cooking for myself and having pretty much all my leftovers end up in the garbage can... i hate throwing away food, but its tough cooking for one. for your home needs just do a huge superstore/costco run.. i never knew toilet paper goes as fast as it does...same with small things like dishwashing soap. (not that u have to worry cuz ull prob get a pimp dishwasher). ive been stealing lil things from home and i think it saved me a lot of money.. tell your parents "ure using it for now" and ull buy it when u see it around. lol.. its strange how i just NEED that specific spoon cuz ive used it all my life.
i duno..i can go on forever.. there will be changes, but since u were already just living with ure bro, you kinda know how it goes. maybe ill trek out to surrey and visit ;). best of luck matt, g'luck with your first townhouse =) |

Congratulations becoming a homeowner! Seriously the best thing I've ever done... I have the biggest debt out of my friends but at least I have something to show for it. AND I finally installed my own laminent floors and it looks beautiful.
In regards to hookup fees etc, some companies may require a deposit or will put you on equal payment plans or block you long distance as you don't have established credit. I think you need a cat. Please choose and I will deliver it, free of charge. www.meowaid.org |

yeah theres an inspector going in tommorow. I am ripping out the carpet and putting in laminate. And painting the entire interior. The mother who lived there was sick and her kids kind of made the place dirty |

It's a townhouse complex so my guess is all the kids that live there are gonna be trick-or-treating w/in the complex. You'll get to see cute kids in costumes, and scope out the MILFs in your complex at the same time ;) |
