Would you ever join the army reserves?
not the actual army, just the reserves
get to go to boot camp and learn how to shoot guns and get trained in mortal combat get paid to work out and get all the food you can eat get away from the monotony of a desk job for a whole month straight and come back tuff as nails It sounds kinda tempting but I'm not really sure I'm down with the whole military thing Just wondering how many people here would ever consider something like that |

I served in Cadets for 8 years when I was younger. The Papers for me to join the Reserves have been filled out for a long time. I've been up in the air about what unit to join. Personally I think the Army/Navy Reserve is an excellent way to serve your Country if you're too pussy to be "shipped off" to anywhere. The Reserves aren't "shipped out" unless it's World War 3. Their deployments are all optional. You have to sign up for the deployments you want. I have some close personal Friends that have served in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Golan Heights and The Middle East. I respect them for having the testicular fortitude to do so. Possibly next year I will make up my mind and finally commit to it. If you are curious about what they do, just look up a Unit and stop by during a Weekly Parade and talk to some of the Members. They will be more than happy to show you around and answer your Questions.

yah I've checked out the site a few times and I'm getting more and more interested, but mainly the reason I'd go is for the boot camp. I know it would be hard work and I would hope to get a bit more tuff from constant drills and running and all that stuff, but as far a going for patriotism,,,not so much. Which I don't know if it would be an issue since I would leave that part out, but I still dunno how much they want you to be "IN" to it besides showing up for the one weekend a month and the odd evening training class.
I had seen something on the voluntary deployment but wasn't to clear on that, so if you don't get shipped out unless it's a world war then that's sounding a bit more interesting for sure! |

Definatly not for me!
But my Girlfriend was in cadets for many years, her father is serving in the Marines, he's on a ship that has visited at least 30 coutries in its travels over the past year. He's never seen combat but is in the ocean in case something comes up. My girlfriend lives on a Military Reserve near Victoria. haha it's trippy, a block away there are guys with really big guns. Reminds me of The Dominican Republic |

I wanted to try cadets for years, but was too busy with a million other activities in school. It was still somthing I thought about after highschool as well, deffinently a plan B.
However after all the Sept 11th stuff I lost alot of respect for the reasons we have army's etc. Im 100% behind peace keeping and have some trust with the Canadian Army/Reservs. Yet after more and more thought I realized I wouldnt be able to take a call. I could never kill anyone or bare to be forced to do somthing I didnt believe in. And the thought if I had a familey to leave behind would be too much. Id feel terible or go crazy if I ever had familey called in. I think its best I just stay out. Otherwise I think alot of what they teach and trian you for is a great experince and I would love to spend some time trying it out, but like I said... im not a fan of war and dont know if im cool with suporting it. i think everyone should have to do it for min 2 or 3 years after highschool. the reserves is just one night a week and 1 weekend a month, every month. then summers too of course. so its pretty much just like a part time job. not bad money too.
its also national pride. if you wouldn't serve your country when the call came, get the fuck out of the country then. and the boot camp isn't anything special. pre 2000 it was, but when the army had to become politically correct, it lost its balls in training. pretty pathetic if you ask me. all you guys talking about sniper this and sniper that, go take some shooting lessons out in abbotsford; or go down to the states and take private lessons at the bases. if you score high enough down there, you can be asked to serve the us army on a contract basis. |

Those of you voting #3... I'll put it like this.
If you go driving, you automatically are understanding that there is a chance someone could in fact hit you and kill you the moment you leave or hell, not even leave your driveway. You don't want to take that risk, don't drive. Those people Walk or Bike. It's the same way with the Military, joining them; it's assumed that you know you are taking the risk that something untoward could cause bodily harm or even death and or capture should for some reason you get deployed or choose to deploy. IT'S AN OCCUPATIONAL HAZARD for gods' sake. People that run around shooting things without much risk of getting killed are called Terrorists. |

my grandpa fought in WWII , i only heard about some his harsh stories from my mum because he didnt like talking about it.
exercise and adventure is great, but its not something you should have to fight and kill for. especially all us wonderfully enlightened canadians... i voted nope! |
