It hurts on both sides? The front or the back - or does it radiate through?

It could be your kidney's or your lungs.

Your gallbladder sits pretty much right below your right breast. I had mine removed about 3 years ago. It wasn't a dull pain either....it was very sharp. And I threw up.....a lot. Gallstones had formed (big ones) and scarred the duct to my stomach so bad they couldn't pass. But the pain was only on my right side.

You very well could have an infection in your lungs and don't know it. I wouldn't wait, it might be a bad bad cold that you just can't feel.

you can live without a gallbladder. I've had tons of cholecystectomy (the surgical procedure to remove gallbladders) patients, as they are super-common procedures.

a little tip about pain: when it comes to problems with internal organs, you don't necessarily feel the pain exactly where the organ is, because not all internal organs have the sensory receptors to tell your brain that that area is painful. in fact, sometimes, you'll get referred pain in a totally different area (i.e. if your heart is not getting enough oxygen, you might feel pain on your left arm). however, I don't know if it applies to gallbladders, so it could very well be the problem if Myra's had the same symptoms..

so just because her pain is underneath her ribs, doesn't mean it's her kidneys or lungs. and by the way, the kidneys are retroperitoneal organs, so they're located more towards your back.

The lungs are actually one of those organs that don't send your brain pain receptors, so I kinda doubt that. plus, unless she has a high temperature, I think it would be safe rule out the possiblity of an infection, as a temperature is usually one of the first signs of an infection.

*edit*

well, turns out this link says that a part of your lung (the parietal layer) is enriched with pain fibers... but whether or not those fibers will be felt as referred pain, I don't know..

lol, no I never really 'know'.

right now, I'm only good for educating, dispelling myths, helping people rule out other things, or just referring people to resources.

but perhaps one day, if I become a nurse practitioner, I'll be able to diagnose, treat and order stuff!! :)

hope the pain goes away soon though!
