You do not need to ever "Replace" power steerin fluid ! Refill when empty yes. Never pay to change yer oil dude ! It's one nut under yer car on the oil pan ! very simple. Never use actual power steering fluid either. Automatic transmission fluid will last twice as long !(instead of power fluid) Trust me man that dudes mad tryin to rip you off ! |

Possibly the system might need to be flushed out. I can change it for ya Ang, pretty easy,
Or maybe you got it confused(or the mechanic did) on your transmission fluid. That needs to be changed more often, like every few years. Bring it over to my place and I'll do it for ya |

Your p/s fluid should be flushed and replaced every time you change the p/s pump. The p/s pump transfers pressurized fluid to your rack and pinion or steering box to assist in, you guessed it, steering. Fluid is transferred through several valves and and is subject to contamination from metal shavings and other forms of general wear and tear in your rack&pinion or steering box, which are essentially two metal on metal gears grinding away every time you turn a corner. Power steering fluid does acquire 'wear', like every fluid in your vehicle. A lot of cars steel pressure from the power steering system to help apply brakes through the master cylinder and booster, which works your p/s pump all that much harder. Quote:

What costs you 70$ now might save you 700-2000+$ shortly down the road on a new rack/pinion and p/s pump and lines. Last edited by Goat; Oct 08, 05 at 12:21 AM. |

If you feel comfortable with what you're doing, do it yourself. It's not hard, but don't fuck around with something if you don't know what it's for. It's easy to get hurt and make a mess around high pressure lines. |
