While on Strike: looking for small short odd jobs

While this teacher strike is happening... I am looked out of work :( Since I dont know how short or long the strike may continue... Im in serch or any small odd jobs ppl my know of or have.

I have my own car and am willing to work late nights any day of the week. If the job goes longer than the strike, im willing to work around that too.

I'd suggest checking out some temp agencies.

They'll be able to place you pretty quickly for some decent work.

AngusOne is the one I was with, and they were great. There are plenty of others out there as well.

Would you be interested in working in the film industry as a production assistant?

Average day involves:
  • 15hour shift (you only incur overtime after 15hours)
  • an 8hour shift (which is considered a half day)
  • 15hour day rate is $169 NET PAY, 8hour day rate is $84
  • cleaning up garbage created by the film crew
  • crowd control while filming outdoors
  • assisting other departments with minor work (like pushing a cart)
  • performing security duties like watching work trucks
  • being at the beck & call of your superior leader the director and the key production assistant.

A film set is a dictatorship with a strict hierarchy and many expectations on the crew

WARNINGS:
this isn't a 9-5 job.
the average workweek is 90hours/week
you DON'T get overtime after 8hours
you DON't work in the office
you MUST endure the outdoor environmental elements
lastly,
IF YOU RUN UP TO ACTORS AND ASK FOR AUTOGRAPHS YOU WILL BE FIRED
IF YOU OPERATE ANY FORM OF PHOTOGRAPHIC DEVICE(CAMERA PHONES) WHILE WORKING WITHIN VICINITY OF THE FILM SET YOU WILL BE REMOVED!

If you are still interested, you know my number.

Thanx for the suport guys! It's really tough as im in full suport with the teachers, yet were all taking a really hard hit every day we strike. And Jeff even most of the SEA's, custodians, secretarys (cupe union) show up at 9am and spend a few hours picketing with the teachers. For both BCTF and CUPE... you have to show up and sign in to recive strike pay.

Ive worked in the film industry before and was looking into a background job posted on CV. Im cool with ANY hours as long as the strike is happening. Problem is this strike is still up in the air... therefore im only able to commit to a job for a day or two. If thats possible then yeah im down... otherwise if the strike is on for a good few weeks... than I commit longer.

Well every district is different. I know in my district the teachers sighn up for one of three shifts. So at the school I picketed we had maybe 5-10 teachers at a time circling the entire school's property. Also some schools may send teachers to another school or stop by and visit other schools as well.

Maybe try contacting an office called Tigertel. I used to work there when I was in highschool. It's min wage since it's temp work and really easy. Pretty much they would just have you taking calls for those home lotteries. All you do is take their contact info, credit card number, and how many tickets they want. Answer whatever questions you can, or give them the number to the help desk.
The office is on Richards just off of Robson. The address is failing me right now though.
