Building a new Computer [specs]
Feel free to voice any thoughts on other hardware. Keep in mind this is a bare bone setup to get started on.
Additional features like CD Roms, keyboards, monitors, graphics and sound cards will all come later. Spend the bulk to get up and running, add as you go along. This is a graphics machine. Built not for 3D rendering but multitasking of resource thirsty applications and largescale print work. ------------------- $225 - LIAN LI PC-6070B Alum Silent Case w/ door, Black $195 - Asus [A8N-SLI-DX] A8N-SLI Deluxe (Asus NF4 SLI S939 1066FSB Dual-DDR400 PCIE16 PCIE8 SLI(x2) 2PCIEx1 3PCI SATA300-R(0/1/0+1) SATA150-R(0/1/0+1/5) ATA133 i1394 USB2.0 7.1Audio 2x G-LAN ATX) $605 - AMD [ADA4200BVBOX] Athlon64 X2 4200+ S939 (Athlon64 X2 4200+ Dual-Core 2.2GHz 1000FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 (AMD64/EVP) (Retail)) $60 2x Kingston [KVR400X64C3A/512] 512MB PC3200 (Kingston 512M DDR400 PC3200 CL3 (3-3-3) DIMM (retail )) $132 - Seagate [ST3200826AS] 200G SATA NCQ 8M (Seagate Barracuda 200GB 7200.8 SATA150 8M NCQ 150mb/sec 7pin 3.5") ------------------- $1277 // est. total @ Atic.ca |

As for parts, im most likely going to take a ride down Broadway and stop at Atic. They priced out about $200 cheaper then Ncix for the same parts. But the tower, that a special order online. Couldn't find it local. |

if you're on a budget get a seagate barracuda 7200.8, any size. cheap, quiet, fast
slightly slower are the WD caviars, louder, cheaper, 5yr warranty + sata2 (pointless) if you're a dot-com-millionaire get WD raptors, they'll always be the fastest until someone puts out a 10k SATA drive if you're bored get 3x or 4x smaller sata drives and raid-5 them since your mobo supports it |

Nice setup.
You should take a look at the Hitachi drives that are coming out. SATA II :y: Also make sure you get a good power supply. You'd be surprised as to how many stability problems in computer just come from a shity power supply. don't cheap out! |

Not sure if this is a typo though 80GB seems too small now days. The 500GB is sweet but way to expensive!! The other thing to look for is a hard drive with NCQ ...i think Seagate HDs have these ( Raptor? ) |
