Television Preview
I opened up my mail today and received 4 tickets to an event held at the Ramada in Richmond in two weeks to sit on my ass and "evaluate not-yet released television material that is considered for national broadcast".
I'm thinking... "Um, yet right" Then I decide to investigate a bit further by going to check out their website: www.televisionpreview.com after about 5 mins of intense laughing and skepticism. Site looked legit. Forwarding address was from Hollywood, CA. So... my question is: Anyone else get these tickets, or is it what I think it is... a huge scam? |

It's legit.
But, it's legit bullshit! It's a marketing research deal. They'll show you some crap Pilot that never has and never will be broadcast, then they'll show you a whole lot of commercials. That's what they want the input on. Unless you're hell-bent on skewing their findings, then it'll be a complete waste of your time. Frosty (received "tickets", never went) |

Yup. It's legit. I ended up going to one of these things about 5 years ago or so...They do show you tv shows, but in some cases, the shows were made in the 80's and you KNOW they won't be put on the air. At the end of it, they get you to fill out a marketing research survey -- what type of products you use at home. And the $250 worth of prizes is a food basket or somethng that will be sent to your home. I don't know if that ever happened.
It's a waste of time. (and I only went because my bf at the time got tickets in the mail and wanted to go) However, my current boyfriend had a friend who got tickets in the mail and ended up going with him to the exact same thing...We were in the same room at the same time 6 months or so before we met! |

I don't think the BBB can do anything about it. It's not illegal or anything like that. It's market research. Same reason why certain stores ask you for your email address or postal code whenever you make a purchase. It's voluntary. They're not forcing you to go.
Even if it seems kinda shady, it's not necessarily "harmful." |
