The "croc" is one of N.Americas top french restaurants. Its a vancouver staple, very high end, and far out wieghs the "trendy" Lumiere anyday of the week. Chef Michaele, holds down a tight crew that have been with him for quite awhile. I cooked and parties with several of his chefs throughout my career, and they were exceptional, and raved about the place.
Cin Cin's is also another vancouver staple. Simple pacific northwest cuisine, seasonal, and unique. Im not sure if Chef Romie Prasad is picking up the head chef duties, as he just opened up his own place, but the man is amazing. Im sure you will have a great time at either place! Bin 941+942 are high end tapas joints, that serve up a helpy serving of atittude and style. Im partial to 941 myself, but understand the service approach is completely different from the Croc and CinCins. More laid back, bar crowd, with a kitchen side 941(off davie+burrard) is a pretty good choice if your peckish, and feel like getting your drink on as well. Feenies? well im biased, i cant stand the guy. But on the high end Lumiere is admitedly amazing. As for feenies, and thier nuskool approach to comfort food? Id rather choose CRU on broadway, Tangerine on Yew, or if your in the burbs the Pear Tree on hastings in N.Burnaby is fucking amazing! chef+owner scott jager + wife serve some seriously amazing food, without the pretensiounes. Scott jager will be at the next Bocuse Dore if i still have a grip on time, and the guy is a stickler for service! Hope this helps happy eating action+mobilization fable |

A friend of mine is a cook at La Crocodile. He just got the job and says it's pretty intense. Although he's more passionate about French food than anyone I've ever met so you're in good hands.
He also used to be a raver, if any of you remember Koo. Never been to either of the restaurants but my parents went to La Crocodile and brought home their after dinner "mint". Instead of mints they were giving out these custom made for the restaurant mint chocolate crocodiles. That definitely says something about how up market the restaurant is. |

(tell them its a "really special date" well in advance, and theyll hook you @ a nice table, do NOT leave it to the last minute) -considering that Le Croc is french/fine, the portions are not too shabby, the avg. cheque average per person will run you ~80-100$ (few glasses of wine, starter, main, split a desert) -dont fret about whatchya wear, i always used to see ladies with dates come in to the restaurant, and totally fret, and be all nervous ha ha! Id come out of the kitchen and try to talk to them, and theyd be all flustered, especially the guy! We would pull the guy aside, when he "got up to use the washroom" and calm em down a bit, suggest a wine that would be good, and some menu items and how to order them, without sounding too dumb (my females customers would tell me that a little fumbling was cute!) If your guys is on the ball, hes probably already talked to the maitre'd about getting the kitchen to whip something up super special! Dont sweat it, splurge a little on wine, dont order too outrageouslly but know that all the food is based on the classics, with a definate coastal local spin + enjoy the service(its really good!) and have fun!! im jeoulous:) action+mobilization fable |

Lumiere is also a really nice date spot too if you want to splurge, the service was excellent and the food was amazing melt in your mouth good, don't know if they still have the ginger pear eve on the dessert menu there but it was basically a freshly baked orgasm (it is that good)
oh and parkside restaurant too, it's tucked away west of denman and it has really good food, very friendly service and hands down some of the best drinks in the city (they make their own liquers!)! |
