haha linear algebra

im pretty sure adams referring to the matrix trilogy (movie). i remember my friend sending me this one link that contained all sorts of theories/philosophys surrounding the movie. materialist theories are always out of this world and outside the box, and always very interesting

Look up Plato's Parable of the Cave.

At least I think it was by Plato. At least I think it was a parable.

I'm sure it was about a cave though. It's basically the universal concept/archetypal story of someone breaking away from the norm, and challenging the system.

It's essentially the basis for dystopian stories.

Seriously, go pick up Snow Crash or Neuromancer and find out where they got all of their ideas from.

The Matrix borrows from a lot of different philosophies and sources. If you're interested in the whole computer/vr thing then I recommend you check out some cyberpunk novels. If you're interested in the hero quest aspect of it, I recommend you go read Joseph Campbell (anything by him is good, really, but Hero of A Thousand Faces is probably his most famous work). If you're interested in the hero-worship stuff, I recommend you pick up a Bible and a history textbook.

I once spent an entire weekend, masterbating to the Sears Fall/Winter catalogue, then I realized it was actually a Linear Algebra text book. Funny how I get those two confused all the time.

Read the first part of "The Rebel Sell" Either the introduction or Chapter 1. it has an interesting take on the movie, plus some books you can check out are also listed.
