Meow-Aid Cat Shelter Urgently Requires Donations
With the abundance of world-wide disasters in the past year many small and localized community organizations are citing a large decline in donation dollars. This is no different for Meow-Aid No Kill Cat Shelter. To add to this, the holiday season is generally a difficult time for us.
I volunteer at the shelter 2-4 times a week helping with cleaning to medications to adoptions. As well I have 5 foster cats over the age of 12 with various conditions. Some basic information: "Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Meow-Aid is a small, grass roots, not for profit organization committed to easing the suffering of homeless cats. For 20 years Meow-Aid has been helping homeless cats by sheltering them until a good home can be found, and by promoting the practice of spaying and neutering. Meow-Aid is a no-kill operation run totally by volunteers. Many of our cats come to us half-starved, mistreated or terrified as a result of abuse or abandonment. We provide them veterinary help as well as food, shelter and lots of love. Our aim is to find good homes for them all... The cost of running the shelter, including veterinary bills, is a minimum of $50,000 per year. We operate solely on donations and assistance from individuals and societies sympathetic to our cause. So needless to say, we are very grateful for all monetary donations, large or small! " For more info please visit our website: www.meowaid.org. Currently we are looking for cash donations which can be made here. At this site you can also find many other ways to help the shelter. We are also seeking canned and dry food. Please contact me if you would like to go this route and I will arrange a dropoff. If you are interested in adopting please follow the instructions on the website. Thanks! These are two of my foster cats. In the back is Pretty Kitty and in the front is her boyfriend Shelby (I didn't name them...). Both are over 12 years old.
Pretty Kitty came to the shelter 5 years ago and tested positive for FIV (feline version of HIV). She was fostered for 4 years but recently her foster parents situation changed and she was returned. (Meow-Aid cats will always have a home). I am currently fostering her. Shelby came to the shetler 2 years ago. She was a wild cat which a couple was feeding. They watched him become ill and trapped him to get him veterinary care. He as well tested positive for FIV and rather than releasing him they brought him to our shelter. Recently his health had been declining so I decided to bring him home to foster with great success. He's tamed down and even enjoys sitting on my lap and purring. |

And before anyone says anything the majority of our cats are healthy... I just take all the sick ones because I'm crazy. The reason we have these cats is because we are no-kill. Most likely they would be put down at the SPCA because they are older, or have medical complications.
