The Municipal Election
Anyone???
Sighns are up everywere and voting takes place on the 19th. I have no idea who anyone is or what their doing. Infact untill today both my dad and I got a letter from our unions pretty much telling us who to vote for in our area. I feel pretty shallow not knowing anything about it except for what the news has shown on Jim Green and the other guy. However there not in my area so I just might have to trust my union and do as they say (if I bother) ??? Och |

I wish Larry Campbell was running again. He was a damn fine mayor for this city.
Jim Green is a good friend of the family, but I don't really support his party's platform..so it's a tough call because honestly, Vancouver doesn't really have any good candidates running for mayor. |

i like the guy too but i think his likability was a distraction from the reality that he wasnt a very good leader...as for vancouver i hope the gimp wins the election cuz jim green and cope live in a different reality and will fuck everyone over in a bid to help their own policy concerns (dt eastside, traffic, development, subsidized housing) which will ultimately fail due to poor planning and the afforementioned lack of a basis in reality. as for coquitlam, they all suck but i hope kingsbury wins, although im probably not going to vote anyway so it dosnt matter. Beyond that SEAN! do you have any idea why there was a spilt within the party? I'm guessing not based on your assertion that it was linked to poor leader ship by Larry Campbell. Do you have any factual basis to assert that he was a poor leader? Beyond improving our city in many ways such as late night bus service, the 4 pillars plan in the lower east side, and giving Vancouverite's a say with an Olympic plebiscite he also maintained a AAA credit rating through responsible budgeting. Grind your axe else where Campbell did a great job.

Although your union protects your job and wages I think it's giving them too much power to blindly vote for their candidate. You never know, you may agree to their suggestion. I don't know why people don't make the time to vote. If you go during the right time it takes less than 5 minutes. If you work many companies give you time off if necessary. |

To be honest I find it kind of distrespectful when someone trys to sugest who to vote for. I think it was a little diffrent when the BCTF and Nurses sent out pamphlets telling ppl to vote for public education and health care, but there were no names or partys sugestd at all. However been given the exact names and no reason why is kinda suspicouse. Ever since I was a kid both my parents educated me on the the Federal and provincial elections... even in grade 11 and 12 we were toughed alot about it. Yet this is the first time ive ever even looked into a municipal election. Its like im starting from scratch. Although im couriouse and feel its important to vote... im kinda lazy about the whole thing. |
