might also be useful but still......everyone speaks english so u wont have any trouble if u cant speak italian and chances are if you DO take a course and learn some italian....it wont compare to most of their english....so if you try to speak the little italian that u did manage to learn....they'll just shift the conversation into english Last edited by dave mcnasty; Nov 21, 05 at 07:27 PM. |

bacio mi culo (not sure about this one) Yeh everyone is right. In the main urban centres a lot of people speak english but not everyone, especially older people. It would be helpful to learn some of the language though. I'm taking italian 100 at SFU. I know douglas does not offer it. I know someone who took a beginners class somewhere downtown Van so i can ask them about it. For now the most important things are learning how to pronounce the language. It reads and writes exactly how it is pronounced. A - ahh E - ehh i - eee O - ohh U - uww CI - chee CE - ceeh Chi - key Che - Keh etc. Do your numbers and learn how to conjugate the 2 main verbs Essere and Avere. Then work on regular vocab like chair is sedia, window is finestra. All the basic vocab that you encounter on a daily basis. |

Good point. A young person from Napoli pronounces things differently and has different words for many things, compared to the Romans. |
