Bell just released the sex-eh Blackberry 7150e What makes this special you ask? Well, it's got a neat compact phone-like design, but that is not the best part. Both Bell and Telus have just launched the new wireless EVDO network in Canada which is really super neat BECAUSE you get good speeds for data transmission with an EVDO enabled device (which this is). What is good speed you ask? Well, it's basically like comparing the speed of dialup internet to cable internet. I've seen one of these in action and it's a lot smoother to surf the web on and the streaming video is amazing. I almost want one, except it doesn't have a full qwerty keyboard and the predictative text is a little off... /nerdout |

Might want to hold off on that purchase until they get thier crap sorted out.
"With the preliminary agreement from March no longer valid and the threat of being shutdown in the US hanging over its head, RIM will need to be very amenable to NTP's demands. US$450 million probably looks very good to RIM now, but NTP will be looking for substantially more. I wouldn't be surprised to see a stipulation that required RIM to drop its patent appeals in a settlement. Whatever NTP wants, it will likely get, unless RIM decides to wash its hands of its largest market." |

but they are settling anyways.. NTP is just a patent troll. they are a company that doesnt make a product. there is no way they will shut down rim if rim is the one bringing in the $$ for them |

again.. patent is only in US.. doesnt affect canada if anything does happen *knock on wood* |

It affects Canada if Rim goes out of business, Rim doesn't bring them any money unless the patent is licensed which is what this mess is all about.
Rim had the ability to license the patent quite a while ago and decided against it, now the cost has gone up. Quote:

If it does go down, I think they will go ahead and implement the work around they been talking about. But then again, withh GOOD, NOKIA, and VISTO take off and release some crazy ass shit, then I guess RIMM could get taken over, but that would be like a phasing out situation. New products dont instantly gain crazy popularity... well.. rarely. |
