time magazine announces 'persons of the year'
The Good Samaritans- Bono, Bill and Melinda Gates.
story here If you actually take a look back throughout the years, Time magazine has selected some pretty contraversial or smart choices, that wasn't the case this year. I personally think that with everything in 2006, it should have been Mother Nature with all the ruckus she caused. I have a hard time swallowing people like Bono as a 'good samaritan', I can't doubt he's doing good in the world and that he is spreading news about certain things, but I just wish he wasn't such a douche in the process. Some of the people in the world who do the best things don't have to announce every step of the way to the media (you know, right before your tour or new album comes out) but that is just my humble opinion, I'm sure most of you feel differently. |

bono eh? hmmmm, i cant argue that hes been behind creating some effective cheritable foundations, but i cant help but feeling he lives in the "just give more aid!" ideology. Which i find is completely reactionary, and essnetially ignores that a large percentage of "donor" countries are actaully the creaters of nations who are in need in the first place.
Yes, many countries could use more money, but it needs to get to the citizens who really need it, and it has to lose the pricetag that has been coming with it. |
