Financial information spoof scam
Hello everyone,
I wish to inform everyone that there are very slick scam artists out there and to be very careful about clicking any links inserted into emails you receive. I just got off the phone with Royal Bank security in regards to an email I received to an email account that I never registered with them. The reason the email raised such a concern to me is the value of the accounts I have access to and the strange nature of the email itself. After spending some time with them (I was bored and so was the security tech) online we dissected the email and I saw first hand just how slick these people are at trying to steal your personal information. Here is a link to a fraudulent website that spoofs the Royal Bank website to grab your login information: http://www.naturalcurescenter.com/rbc/login.html It looks 99% real and if you are not careful you would probably have clicked through and never known any different. The Canadian gov't has posted a bulletin in regards to these scams here: http://www.fcac.gc.ca/eng/consumers/...dWarning_e.asp After speaking to the RBC security people they have told me that no financial institution will ask for sensititive information via normal email channels. So please be VERY careful in regards to releasing your financial or personal information over the internet. Regards, Winston |

RBC security already knew of this scam and the tech I spoke to was pretty cool as he walked me through most of it and how the hyperlinks get rerouted and stuff. |

I heard about this kind of scam before. It's bloody scary and I fear sending any of my information over the internet now. My guess is to look at the actual web address to make sure you are indeed in the official site. However im sure more and more scams are being created... it bothers me how companies like banks incurage ppl to do on line banking.

I just typed in a whole bunch of random numbers
it then takes you to another part asking you for all your credit card numbers, apsswords security questions I typed in a bunch of bullshit again then it took me to the real royalbank website where I could actually gain access to my account if needed. So really if I wasn't thinking I could've just signed in again and everything would be fine, not noticing I've been scammed! Unfortunatly a lot of elderly people fall for this. |
