Puter question......
does anyone know why the interweb would only be working under one of the log ons and not any of the others!? [windows log ons]
my moms works fine, mine, adminstrator, and guest doesnt...... And my moms the only one that uses this puter on a regualr basis.... which.. youd think it'd be her's to go in the not working direction. |

There could always be a chance of a virus affecting different user accounts
One of the logins can have restricted internet access, not even the interwebs can be enabled without the super user (is that a windows term or a hacker movie term? I cant remember) account logged in to enable the internet. Have the super user (THERE IT IS AGAIN!) Login and create account with access to everything and that should solve the problem. Now, take your shirt off and send me a pic. |

hahaha, hackers was sweet when I was 14 lol. anyways, the "super user" is usually called the administrator account.
but try going into your control panel, hit up Network Connections, and double click New Connection Wizard. I'm using Windows XP, and since computers are about survival of the newest, I'm assuming you are as well. I am also assuming you are on broadband, since dial-up is unbearable. SO.. follow these steps. 1. Click Next 2. Click Next again 3. Select "Set Up My Connection Manually" 4. Click Next..... now. 5. Select "Connect using a broadband that is always on" 6. You guessed it.. click next 7. Click Finished now just select your new connection, and give it a shot. trust me, I play a doctor on TV |

first thing's first though. You might as well eliminate the more simple possibilities first. the administrator account may have denied connection to the others.. it could be a firewall issue also. I highly doubt it's a virus though. It would most definately affect all accounts.. they aren't picky.

what version of windows? and is your moms account an administrator account?
also, making all accounts administrator is bad advice. any spyware, viruses etc contract while logged in as an adminstrator will have administrator access, meaning they have free reign of your computer. |

1. log on as administrator (not admin level account, but actual administrator)
2. open control panel 3. double-click "add/remove programs" 4. on the right hand of the add/remove dialog windows you will see 4 selections, click "Set Program access defaults" 5. select "Microsoft" (if you use firefox it'll just ask you to switch next time you use it so don't worry) 6. click okay and close your windows so you down to just your desktop 7. click on start, then right click on "my computer" and select properties 8. in the properties dialog click the hardware tab @ the top 9. click on device manager. 10. find your network card in the device manger stack (it'll be under network adapters) right click on it and select uninstall, keep clicking okay until it's uninstalled 11. reboot and log on as your mom (her account must be admin level) windows will auto detect the card and install the driver. if it does reinstall your card go back into the device manager dialog (my comp, properties, hardware) click ones on any item in the stack and then select "actions" from the menu along the top and select "scan for hardware changes" These steps will uninstall and reinstall windows TCP/IP stack, which is likely the cause. If it doesn't try making a new user and see if their internet works, if it does use the File & Settings transfer to back up your mom's users data to a file and then use F&S again to import it into the new account, then nuke your mom's account |
