Not that I disagree with the buddy system at all, but your belief that it is the end all, be all is crazy. More importantly I believe you should have some sort of avy gear (if you know you're going to leave trail... KNOW HOW TO USE IT), whistle (best thing I've heard yet) and MOST IMPORTANTLY someone should know where you're going and when you're expected back. If people don't know that you're not back, they won't go looking for you. You and your buddy can rub each other together all you want. Last edited by LDUB; Jan 11, 06 at 03:33 PM. |

2) More visible? Riiiight. I see the new colour patterns people wear these days and LAUGH at how stupid it is. Yes... lets go out in head to toe camoflage and trek out of bounds. That's just retarded but kids want to look cool. I wear a bright red jacket, my buddies wear orange and yellow repsectively. If you want to be seen then dress that way... don't dress in all black and grey and think you look the shit when people can even see you in a tree well. 3) More willpower? I have a hard time beliving that many people that go skiing and snowboarding these days has any clue what to do to survive a couple of days out there even if they had avy gear on them. Rant is over but here are some tips if you do carry a backpack and gear: - If you can safely get to a visible spot then do so in order for th rescue personalle to spot you. If you have a whistle you better be blasting away on it. - If darkness is quickly approaching then find a tree to provide cover, take out your shovel and make a quick shelter to hide in. I pack a space blanket and I suggest that you people do as well. Wrap yourself in it and keep blasting away on that whistle every so often. - Carry powergel or some type of liquid energy to keep you body going. - Carry a ziplock bag so you can put some snow in it, put it inside your jacket and melt it into water to drink. NEVER eat snow as that makes your body use way too much energy to convert it to water. |
