There's mandarin and cantonese. You probably want...well hell, probably mandarin but they're both spoken widely.

every chinese speaking person I know (including my family) will say they speak Chinese. it is usually when someone specifically asks what dialect they speak, that they will say they speak mandarin, hokkien, shanghainese, cantonese, etc.

ALOT

I learned FAST not to call it chinese. Although it might of just been a come back every time I said "no chinese in school", and someone would always reply, "its not chinese it's MANDERINE!!!"

I don't think the 'banana' types had this problem :p
