I am Happy Without TV

Holy Shit its been 4years now and I've almosts never watched TV...

I feel the STRONGER power/spirit in my blood that TV just absorbed before, that TV wasted, that TV timelessly stole what we could romanticly achieve or for the none fans ''Imaginative activities''

I just feel SO happy without it honestly

And wanted to shout how good it feels to live without it...I just hope you will try it

TV IS A MIND CONTROLLER & BRAIN SLUSHER

If you have mindless comments please keep it for yourself..thank you

Television programming for the most part sucks. I remember back in the days when I would patiently wait until sunday nights for the new simpsons episodes to come out, only to realize that the newer Simpsons episodes sucked ass, at about that point I think started to slowly move away from the TV and closer to the computer (where its more convenient to watch TV or movies).

A couple months ago I downloaded the whole first season of LOST, i became addicted and now it is the only show that I make plans to watch on TV. (Usually takes about an hour or two for the episode to be uploaded on the net, and I dont like to wait that long).

I notice im out of the loop when commercials are brought up, some are really original and funny, but since i only watch tv shows on my comp, I get no commercials... its like a double edged sword...

i watch hardly one hour of TV a week. now it's all on my computer or DVD's. when i move i don't plan on getting a TV. i just can't find myself interested in sitting down in front of it anymore.

however, if you really think that TV is a brainslusher and mind controller then you have an unbelievably weak mind. you can just get up and turn it off. you did. i did.

TV may be mindless and stupid most times, but remember that we are the ones that pay to get it and hold the controller in our hands.

baha, if you have problems with television controlling your mind, the blame is on your own shitty brain, not tv.

What's the difference between mindless hours in front of a boob tube and mindless hours in front of a computer screen? I mean if you spend time posting on FnK you're hardly enriching your life you know what I mean??

There are days when I want to come home and just veg with mindless drivel. I don't want to play on the computer, I don't want to play video games, I don't want to read, I don't want to listen to the radio. I just want to zone out, I *heart* my television for those times.

yah man its almost 4 years since i have had TV as well. its great not to waist all your time sitting there doing nothing... i agree that the progaming is getting worse and worse these days. at least when you waist all your time on a computer you are forced to read and write. thats a little more brain activity than you get watching TV. not to mention all the brainwashing and crap from gov'ts and companies.....

im not even going to get into commercials.

That is the only reason why I have a TV around also. I hardly watch it, only when I really need to let my mind shut off, and just veg out.

Also, (like Cdn_Brdr also mentioned) taking the time you've wasted on TV, and then wasting that on the internet, isn't really making too much of a difference! You're still devoted to a beloved glowing box...it's just a different one.

Seriously, does the conspiracy theory stuff ever get tired?!

Watching a rerun of Golden Girls in the middle of the night cause you can't sleep isn't brainwashing you into moving to miami with a bunch of old women. There is some stuff out there that I agree, I wouldn't waste my time on watching. But there is other stuff that is out there purely for entertainment. And personally, I don't always need to hear about death and violence on CNN or the radio....

I know it's your job to point out ppl's grammatical errors, but sometimes it's a little too much. For example, dravengd is my brother, and if you knew him you would realize that he is a LOT better speller than he used to be, and that even being able to write FORWARDS is an accomplishment (he was/is severly dyslexic) . Anyways, my point is that lack of spelling ability doesn't necessarily mean lack of brain activity, but perhaps just not that individual's forte... people ARE different (SUPRISE!) and everyone has their own talent/gift....

However, to the topic, I haven't had television for... 3-4 years now as well, and I honestly agree that it really is a brainrotter. I was at a friend's house and their cousin was watching some shows and you just realize how utterly DUMB and POINTLESS it is. Honestly, to realize yourself more and to be able to think independently, I would suggest forgoing any TV... a friend of mine recently gave up TV and is now persuing books instead (which they NEVER did before) and they agree as well at how MUCH better it is...

point is: TV IS EVIL!!!! lol

How is TV preventing me from thinking independently?!?!?!?!

I read on average 3 books a month. I have a full time, awesome job. I go to school part time. And I run my own business. I hardly think this dictates what television has done to me.

I am not an advocate for Television, but seriously, for some reason I have this strange vision of your brother and you sitting at home with tinfoil hats on your heads in case the bad rays get in.....

I bet if he wasn't your brother you would have kept quiet and giggled like everyone else. It was meant as a joke... you know, ha ha ha. My point more than anything is that all you people on your high horse who think you're SO MUCH BETTER OFF because you don't watch TV are really not that much further ahead if at all.

Let's see if I can sum it up... it's TV, it's there for entertainment. It's no different than going to a movie, playing a video game, reading a book, surfing the net... it's there for you to enjoy. It's hardly a conspiracy. I mean if you watch a documentary are you really rotting your brain?

I'm glad your brother has mostly overcome a disability, but I don't think it can all be attributed to the lack of TV.

Quit judging people based on how they spend their recreational time...

lol, now who's over-reacting? I know you meant your comment as "a joke" which is why I was only commenting... however, people don't seem to realize that even over the internet things like that can hurt, and you are only funny at the expense of the other person. I never said I was judging ANYONE for how they spend their recreational time, but only commenting on how, after not watching tv for so long, it all seems so drivel and pointless.

As for the very rude comment about me and my brother sitting with tin foil hats - you can really go and fuck yourself. (I don't even see why this had to be a personal attack... how do you come up with a baseless comment like that!?) When I say tv is evil, I am talking about the shit that everyone is watching (i.e. that paris hilton show, bachelor something or another, etc). not documentarys, which are quite enlightening... but don't even try and convince me that is what most people watch tv for... i used to watch it, and yes a documentary here and there, but mainly useless programs...

Edit: I just wanted to add in here as well, I never said anything about TV being a conspiracy... Just that it prevents you from going outside, enjoying life, learning something new, and otherwise... Personally (ie this is my opinion) surfing the net, playing video games and reading books are MUCH better for you than tv... why? because while you are sitting there watching tv, your brain isn't being used as much... I know many of you have experienced the idea of turning off your brain while watching tv... you sit down to watch a show and then a few hours later realize you are still there, watching something you don't even like (infomercials)... It's happened to me, and I bet it's happened to others... However, while reading you are using your creativity to imagine yourself in the setting, and learning new words, how to be a better read, etc... and videogames/internet same idea-ish... though personally I don't really think videogames are all that great for you either, but at least you are interacting with it and coming up with ideas/strategies/etc... just my 2 cents since I feel that I have to justify myself or else apparently I'm going to bashed for saying my own opinion...

perhaps saying tv is 'preventing' you from thinking independently was a little too strong (but I honestly didn't think people were going to be so jumpy and flip out over a harmless post... but then this is fnk) but while you are sitting there and watching these tv shows that have no purpose and symbolize mindless knowledge (ie. famous people news, who the hell cares?!), it could be time spent better doing things that actually have revelancy and increase knowledge... before you go jumping all over me for this, I know I am not talking about EVERY single person, but yes a lot of ppl spend hours sitting in front of a television, and those are the ones this is more addressed to. A few shows a week, no I don't think that is seriously affecting you, but if taken too much (like most things) it can be a real determent.

wow, getting a little heated over a stupid topic arent you?

first i know i have terrible spelling. i dont care, if im going to hand something in for school or send an officail letter, ill spell check... for this site, im not going to. i hope you are not heart broken. as long as you are getting the message, i dont care about the spelling.

second, way to overplay the brainwashing thing. i mentioned it and all of a sudden im a conspiricy theorist. when companys play a commercial over and over durring one break, or when characters in your fav sit com mention that there fav drink is pepsi, thats all brainwashing in its own manner.

lastly who said im looking down on anyone. am i mistaken or is the thread all about peoples oppinons of TV.

I started watching them at the gym, to keep my mind occupied while I work out and once or twice a week I rent a dvd.

Other then that I am TV free for about two and a half years. I dont care what anyone else does, but for myself, I look at it as a a serious waste of my time and life.
