found this book in a hostel in Iquitos Peru and couldnt put it down for 5 days straight...i loved it so much i kept it

its a must read!!

I'll summarize.

He doesn't really hate Canadians, it's just a catchy title that will get people interested. He takes some Bill Bryson-esque gentle swipes at certain parts of Canadian culture... and then has one serious chapter on the shit state of affairs of our native population.

I don't recall thinking it was that great a book when I read it, though it wasn't that bad either. I'd be interested to read his book where he hitchhikes across Japan, though. (I think I'm not making this up, I think it was mentioned in my Japan travel guide)

I thought this book was hilarious....Will Ferguson is funny, and he pokes fun at things that are very true of Canada... Some ppl are just skeptics! :P

are you kidding man this book was a breath of fresh air to me when i was in the amazon. it had me in stichtches laughing and also made me think alot about canadain nationalism and other serious issues.

..the chapter on hockey and the paul henderson gaol ALONE earns this book at least a B!

You like it better, eh? So I'm assuming that means you've read "Hitchhiker's Guide to Japan"?.. because otherwise, you'd have no way of knowing which was "better".

So by all means, let us know how this Will Ferguson effort compares to Douglas Adams' classic series. It would appear to me that since one is based on real life travels and adventures, while the other is a wildly imaginative work of FICTION, there's not really that much room for comparison, once one moves beyond their titles. But you're the expert that's read both books, please feel free to correct me.
