Modified Cars in the Richmond area

Just heard this from a friend, but I don't have a clue if it's true or not...

Richmond Police is now issuing a zero-tolerance policy on vehicles that have aftermarket parts that are designed to increase performance of any car. If they pull you over, they will ticket you and TOW your car on the spot. This includes everything from exhausts/headers/intakes to suspension modifications. CBC Newsworld just showed this. This is absolutely outrageous. Tell anyone with a modified car to avoid richmond for now.

Anyone know if it's true?

Very weak

The thing that annoys me the most about this situation is the fact that it relates to the ancient rule : "If 1 person breaks the rules, we-all-suffer-mentality". The last time I saw this in effect was when I was in elementary school. Obviously all the recent "racing" deaths are from excessive speeding but I think the city has gone way beyond the call of duty on a no-tolerance policy. Not only is this a cash grab for the city of Richmond (fines, tickets and tow trucks), it's also a discriminating act against Asian people. What about all these hics that live in the country that soup up their rides and race down empty dirt roads? Geography has something to do with it because most country folk might flip into a ditch or skim across a wheat field. In the case of Richmond, one false turn and you could find yourself wrapped around a telephone pole or crushed against a cement barricade. I just hate seeing freedoms being taken away. The city should work with the people who invest money into their cars and quit trying to play GOD. People are going to kill themselves whether or not they have a faster chip or better exhaust. Keeping a new ride "stock" is bunk. The business owners (auto stores) in Richmond will suffer, the Asian community will feel targeted and you're stealing yet another part of youth culture.

give it time..
if it's such a good thing to the police and everyone it'll catch on with the other cities and it'll be like that everywhere...
but things have to got to start somewhere..and richmond is starting it cause the majority of the cars their targeting are there.. sow hy not start there?
if it's such a good idea it'll catch on..
if not it won't stay around long..

heh. ironic.

your average rice boy's "performance enhancements" don't really do much in terms of actually enhancing performance. if the cops were serious about cracking down on speeding, they'd merely just pull over any six-or-more cylinder engines.

instead of this they're attacking the symbols of speed in an attempt to quell the riceboy mindset, and not the speed itself. this does make sense to me, because if you take the oversized muffler off of the honda civic, and remove all of the stupid stickers, you've effectively demoted the driver down from supah r33t race driver to just some schmuck commuting to work. he no longer thinks he's invicincible. he no longer thinks that he can actually race (good racing entails good driving). he no longer thinks that he is hot shit.

he's just some fucking dork in a 4-cylinder car.

it's about time someone started to put an end to all of this pitiful fronting.

I think it's important for everyone to realize that any car (import or not, enhanced or stock) CAN and WILL kill anyone if used irresponsibly. Speed limits aren't set up to stop people from killing one another, they are set for fuel efficiency. because if you can't tell me that hitting another car going at 50 isn't going to kill or seriously injure you... you are a dumb head.

I think that the new policy is a little outrageous and is going to hurt an entire culture of street racing, but if it stops both innocent and guilty bystanders from getting destroyed by 2 ton killing machines... then i agree with it. If a 85 chevy nova were to crash and kill the driver, it'd be in the obitchuary. if a rice rocket or luxury car were to kill someone or the driver, it's a headline.
