Uh-oh Canucks hardly hanging onto a playoff spot.

1-0 Kings.

LA & San Jose 2 points behind.

Most teams their fighting have games in hand.

They really need to win 4 or their next 5 just to stay in it.

Goooood luck :)

Doesn't it seem like the Canucks are in a position like this every year? I wouldn't be surprised to see them walk away with all those wins. Don't have much hope for the playoffs, though.

Even if we were to somehow sneeeeak into the playoffs, the first team we would play would be Detriot.

In my opinion as a long-time fan, no. Perhaps experiencing 1993-94 in my formative years jaded me but I always expected a little grit. You can only get so far sitting on talent. I don't know if Trevor Linden ever had any but fuck if he didn't play his ass off every night, now too he's just lost a step. Even then he's still twitching around short handed getting in people's faces. But now that I look at the records, I'm a bit confused. How can there be so many teams so far above .500 out of the playoffs? What's going on in the NHL this year? There are only 3 teams with less wins than losses in the West and 4 in the East out of 15 team conferances. Last year had 5 in the West and 6 in the East and the year before that was 7 a piece. Was there a ban on losing I wasn't made aware of?

It's because of the new salary caps man

Now suddenly teams have to give up players to fit their cap and it spreads the talent a little more around the league. It kinda sucks for teams like us, because we were like top 4 in money to throw around, now we are even with everyone and we can't make a whole lot of noise with trades.

They definitely are missing the grit from 93/94...plus Pavel was really cute.

I am thinking the Sedin-Sedin-Carter line DEFINITELY deserves to be in the playoffs...as for the rest of the team.... :(

We'll never get passed 2nd round neways.

Just face it we're fucked till next year.

I think this years nhl was pretty shit all around neways.

The ref show for one, playing the same fuckin teams 80 times in a row for 2.

Don't even get me started on 3 for fux sakes.

Just call it a season and wait.

Canucks need to shape up on their putting skills neways.

Now of course edmonton is beating chicago.. so they will move 4 points ahead of Van. (we'll have one game in hand though) Our only hope of makin the playoffs is winnin both games against san jose and knock them out of the spot. SJ is playin pretty well too.. so basically we win 4/5 of our remaining games, beating SJ both times, or we are out.

A series against Detroit would be pretty entertaining at least, we've played pretty good against them this season. Doesn't even matter though, Auld isn't good enough to carry them through the playoffs.

I agree. They really need to look at the product that is around.

The all over the place reffing. So inconsitent. At least before you knew you could grab and a penalty was a penalty.

Now someone falls over a stick by accident its obstruction tripping automatically.

I don't really like the shootout much either. 10 min 4 on 4 overtime is way better.

The Salary Cap is an alright thing, but ya the standings are messed/

I liked the cap because I hate the Rangers. Now the fucking Rangers are doing really well. How can this be? They've blown ass with the highest payroll for years.

The fucking shootout definitely needs to go. Every time they show a highlights package now for one of those games, they'll show one or two clips from the game and two or three stupid shootout shots that don't count for anything anyway. And if there was a penalty shot in the game, you get to see four or five of the bastards in a row. Really makes you wonder what the point of playing was in the first place. Bring back the tie. There's way too many point in the standings (if you're gonna keep it, though, you should change the points to 3 for a regulation win, 2 for a shootout win, 1 for a shootout loss, and 0...I'm tired of this some games are worth 3 pts, some 2 crap while I've yet to see a shootout game where the winner really deserved full points...just a thought from my old play-by-mail days). But really, shootouts are a retarded exercise best left in practice and All Star games.

when you spend 150 bucks to go to a game, you wanna walk outta there with some result. personally, when i used to go to games a lot I haaated seein them TIE after hours of battle. personally, I kinda like the shootout.. its fun for the players and it amps up the fans. think about how crazy the place goes when somebody throws in the game winner in the shootout.

it's a lot more exciting than "oh.. ok they tied.. lets go home" :/

I don't think so. The shootout means nothing and looks terrible. Hell, you can watch most teams practice the shootout for free and save you watching the shitty games. Besides, both teams are automatically getting a point when you hit the shootout. It's basically the same as a tie anyway, only they have a shootout after for an extra point that looks better in the standings. Why even go to any sporting event if you're expecting some result? That's why we have wrestling. Real sports are supposed to be more unpredictable. Instead, we have these ties whored up to look like wins and the entire regular season starting to look more and more like an accurately watered-down All-Star game. Ties are meant to be frustrating. That's why the playoffs are so great: no ties. Now, who gives a fuck? With the way they're calling penalties, they might as well just line up both teams have everyone take a penalty shot, and save us all the bullshit. Hockey isn't supposed to be soccer. You should be willing to take a puck to the face for a tie. What happened to my game?

yeah the shootout is kinda shitty .... BUT I went to the edmonton game like last week when it went into that crazzzzzzzzy shootout... and I must say that watching a shootout live with that type of atmosphere was dope... and having bert scoring the winner was even more hype....

Pfff fuck that.

Do you/Did you ever play ice hockey? doesn't seem like it.

when you get into more competitive leagues its so much more fun to do shootouts (in playoffs or tournys) than it is to tie reg. season games

i'll admit i never did regular season game shootouts, no league ever did that but Im just sayin they are hella fun to do and if it gets the majority of the fans stoked, then why not ?

but yeah the reffing these days is so horrible, it's not even hockey anymore it's who can score the most PP goals. fuckin ridiculous when you think about, each team is in the box half the period in most cases now.

Im not against the new hooking rule to a degree, I used to fuckin hate gettin hooked back by slower players .. so at least there is some justice there now, but the refs have SHITTY judgement for it.. the slash/hook has to IMPEDE your stride to be a penalty, if it just touches you and is harmless its not a fuckin penalty. grrrrrrr the refs make me mad these days.

Yes, I did. Actually, I was pretty good at the shootout. I am 6'7, though, so I've got some reach to play with.

Yeah, but so is playing in those giant blow-up sumo suits. Are we gonna make them all play in that now just to make the idiot American fans happy and make the players feel good? It's supposed to be Hockey Night In Canada, not Fox Presents Wanking On Ice For US Dollars. How far is too far in changing the game to make fans (who obviously don't like the game anyway if they want to change it to basketball/soccer so much) happy down south? Personally, I think the shootout won't last long in the NHL. It was just a gimmick to get some Americans looking our way again.

I'll agree with Mangle. I couldn't stand Shootout. I'm glad they aren't using them in the playoff's and its back to full 20 minute overtime.

Also I think at least if your gonna have a shootout have it 5 skaters to 5 not 3. cause one team scores 2 and the team can win.

but ya i really think they need to look at the product. i hate shootout

If they were, I think I'd explode. Could you imagine the Stanley Cup being decided by a series of penalty shots? Jesus. Continuous OT, sudden death is the best part of the playoffs. It'll be interresting to see what the refs call, though. Anyone remember Brett Hull's in-the-crease goal? Hooray for rule changes.
