Vancouver down to 3rd place ( best cities to live)

Vancouver isn´t the best place to live anymore, according to the 2006 list...
The best city for living quality is Zürich in Switzerland, followed by Geneve ( switzerland ) and vancouver.
I only have the Italian link, as soon as I find an English one I will post it ( may be someone else finds one quicker... )

I'm not surprized Switzerland is in first (and second). Whoever's been there would probably agree as well. And like many of you have already said, third in the world ain't bad at all!

We didn't move down - we were 3rd last year as well.

Being in the top 3 is a huge accomplishment if you actually think about it.

It's amazing to be in the top 10 even.

I can think of alot of places that are better.

Vancouver is quite the lil Babylonian utopia though.

i bet it starts to go down even more...
it's hard to retain number 1
cause you got the spotlight and now...you attract everything - good and bad
still a great place to live and grow old...but for music, art, and culture...i could live somewhere else
but being next to the states, i see all their bad vices moving in on us within the next 15 years

I heard about this on the news this morning, i mean 3rd is not bad at all. I heard the United States didnt even make it on the list till the 20's I think it was. And that was somewhere in Hawaii.

Nah, just the cost of housing.

(how can a city be livable when everything's so damned expensive?)

my buddy has been studying there for 3 years and whenever he comes back on break all he wants to do is go back, he says the scene there is just unbelievable, but so are prices apparently, definatly one of my next travel destinations. though despite that vancouver is still #1 on my list, but i do think the scene could improve a little. - little

Yeah, it's really horrible (at least around Commercial). The local culture of Vancouver is going to be gutted again: first to accomidate Expo, now for the Olympics. We're a good 20 years from being on top again.

As far as cities go it's alright, but big cities do have their problems. I think this survey is only ranking the main cities. In smaller cities the housing costs are lower, your travel times are lower if you work in that city, less apparent crime, slower pace of life, less pollution.

For example, assuming you have a job, Victoria is a far better place to live than Vancouver. Sure in Vancouver you have more clubs, more restaurants, lots of glitzy stores, 2 universities instead of one, but how much variety does a person really need?

tell that to a resident in a city like new york, tokyo and or london and you will need an hour to hear their reply.

Vancouver is still #1 in my books but like Switzerland it is still one on the most expensive places to live.

i doubt the cost of living really plays much of a part in surveys like that, considering how much more expensive switzerland is.

i love vancouver, i really do, but i have to say that i've almost reached the point where i don't know if i can live here forever. as sad as it is, the weather is too fucking depressing.

the cost of housing in geneva and zurich is astronomical, even relative to vancouver. people may think that housing prices in vancouver are high, but relative to most other large cities they really arent.
