Boy's 911 call Ignored; Mother ends up Dead
I thought this was interesting.

I think it was wrong for them to just quickly assume that the kid was "playing" around with the phone. Couldn't they have given him the benefit of the doubt? Or at least speak with the kid more to determine if he is joking or not? I'm sure there are certain tell-tale signs if someone is prank-calling or not.

I heard about this the other day and its absolutly horrible. The worst part i heard was that the operator was still working even after the incident untill it gets 'figured out'
Whats there to figure out, ive heard of 3 year olds calling and they send someone there cause they just dont know whats going on because they cant understand the child.

Ugh. That sucks.
The same thing happenned to my mom many years ago. She was a single woman living with two children under six in a basement suite. She awoke one night to hear someone crawling in through the bathroom window and rummaging around in the kitchen. Terrified, she called 911 and whispered very quietly that there was a man in her house. The woman didnt believe her. She actually said, "what? speak up! speak up!" My mom was trying to ensure whoever it was didnt hear her. After she finally got the woman to understand the situation, the operator says, "Well, I don't think that's very true, you don't sound very upset." And hung up on her. The guy stole some stuff and left, but the police never did come and my mom had to live terrified for the next few months.

i think its all luck of the draw on who you get - my dads old cell phone number used to start with 91 and my mom accidentally called 911, hung up, they called back asked if she was ok, she said yes it was an accident and apologized thoroughly, and they sent a cop car over anyways. silly eh?

as someone who works in a security station who calls out to pd/fd/ambulance etc, this is totally messed. that's why you follow procedure EVERY time. they don't pay me or 911 operators to make decisions. and that's what happens when you have someone going past their duties and exerting their opinion.
*devils advocate 911 op figured he was just another black kid in detroit without proper supervision who was only screwing around with the authority he had been taught to fear and disrespect. mmmm broad brushes are fun to paint with.

When I heard about this..it made me cry. Can you imagine how that poor little boy is going to feel his whole life? The fact that he tried not once, but twice to save his mothers life and was shot down. Fuck this burns my ass. You hear shit like this every once in awhile. Obviously not every single call coming through is going to be an emergency but for gods sake.. that little boy watched his mother die because a fucking operator made a damn assumption.
Poor kid. That woman deserves to be fired..and be smacked around. thankyou.
