sooooo nice to have a running desktop system again.

after over a yearlong hiatus, i am once again a lunix user. sadly it's not working 100% up to snuff (drawers don't wanna work in GNOME for some strange reason and I still can't load all the wmv codecs i want), but it works enough that now i can watch those xvid discs i've got kicking around from my bedroom. also can pull up torrents and ON WITH THE DOWNLOAD!

Now time to make effective use of my oink account....

seriously, i've been coping with dealing with windows this past year. You have any clue how ridiculously nice it is to say fuck off to winsocks and have iptables? *sigh*

Congrats on linux install, what distro you playing on? If you're a gnome guy you really can't beat ubuntu these days for ease of use.

As for those win32 codecs.http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/codecs.html Just download the largest pack and extract it into your codecs dir. On ubuntu mine are located in /usr/lib/win32/

well, now the comp's not working... hardware issue, so i'm back to the xp laptop. =(

and i was just getting used to having it around again.

I use scripting mostly just for file arrangement/cleanup stuff. which bash is pretty good for.

i'm typically a fedora user. probably the worst distro out-of-the-box but hook up apt-rpm and synaptic and life becomes happy again.
