Eagle Ridge Bluffs to be bulldozed for new hwy
Im not sure if many of you have watched the news, but the new proposed route for the sea to sky hwy will potentially destroy a sensitive ecosytem. Im no evironmentalist but i assure you that area is one of a kind. I disagree with the actions of the government and have sent a letter to the minister of transportation and Gorden Cambell. I realize the Sea to Sky hwy needs to be improved, but do they have to wipeout the environment at the same time? There have been many options presented to the government, yet they still choose to ignore the people of BC. If you have hiked in the eagle ridge bluffs then you know what a special place it is. If any of you agree with this then send your letter showing your support.

I was watching this too. The fact of the matter is, it does need to be improved people die on this stretch of highway all the time but like you said, why do they need to tear down a sensative habitat. With the olympics coming the highway does need to be bigger and better, there will be tons of traffic coming and going through this way in the years to come.

true.. very true.. apparently the new hwy will cost at least 130mil and widening the exsisting hwy will be a fraction of that price. i dont understand why the government would want to waste more money than they need to and destroy our environment at the same time.

I've opposed it for years! _ESPECIALLY_ now, during this debt-ridden olympics farce! (no, not the event, the bullshit pricetag that most of the people never wanted!) DON'T put money into the roads! Put it, smartly, into public transit! What kind of dumbasses would invite our world to carnage on the roads? Look at the history of past public events, world-wide! PUBLIC TRANSIT! You're gonna have visitors having a rough enough time w/ signage/language and wanting to enjoy their "holidays" without having to pay out more money to rent vehicles to haul their own asses around! People wanna have fun! They wanna see the events! They DON'T want to have to deal with getting their asses up to Whistler and back! (I'll bet most visitors would pay for the rail ride up, while enjoying the scenery, while sipping some wine, or a spiked coffee or hot chocolate) The people want simplified transit access! (Have these gov't assholes _EVER_ travelled abroad?!) Give 'em one easy-access departure point. (Van) Give 'em one easy-access arrival point. (Whistler) Has anyone noticed that parking kinda SUCKS in Whistler over the last couple of years?! Let alone the loss of even more day-parking to more unsecure, over-priced underground parking? Sorry for the side-rant, but, I feel the sentiment reflects the original statement. Frosty (Less cars, thank-you!) |

its inevitable that our society will have to progress into the future, but it must be done with careful thought and all sides must be considered. Personally i cant stand to see trees and forrests demolished, if you look around the city, any remaining bush and trees get slashed right out, they dont even leave anything left standing,

Hearing about this really pissed me off , it is a severly sensitive ecosystem considering in it a rare frog lives. Im soo going to protest
First off they have already taken it too court so a letter is pretty much worthless but then showing support about how some memebers of society are becoming is the main thing, the government wanted nothing to do with it the first time it came in , so many bodys are needed! |
