Anyone who's had a Canadian Student Loan...

I'm trying to repay my loan but I want to apply for the Interest Relief and I'm having a bitch of a time finding the right form (surprise surprise).

It's NOT a BCSL... it's a CSL which is why I'm having such troubles. The CanLearn.ca site that's supposed to tell you all this shit has a ton of broken links and will tell you about the form you need but not give a link to get it.

I managed to track one down after a good half hours search but I'm seeing now once I've printed it that I think it applies to loans before August 2000 as part of it has to be filed in my the lender. I didn't get a loan from a bank so this form is basically useless.

Has anyone gone through this? Can you point me in the right direction? I'm starting to get bloody frustrated.

Thanx!

Right now I'm not paying it back at all... I'm trying to figure out how and if I can defer it and/or the interest because I make basically no money right now.

I believe the only way to defer it, is if you are in school. They may be lenient for not being employed though, I can't remember what their policy is on it.

Are you getting ready to start paying it back now? Is your grace period over?

My grace period is over as of this month so I'm trying to get it sorted out. I know you can apply for interest relief for up to 30 months (6 months at a time) but I just need to find the proper form.

I waited 9 months after I finished school before I even got a letter in the mail telling me how to pay..but by that time it was already in areers by 60 days..and was sent to collections. Even after I tried explaining that no previous letters were recieved..it was still out of my hands..so BE CAREFUL.

Try calling 1-800-661-6863 and asking them for information.. They should send you all forms required. Good luck. Student loans are a bitch. =/

tax refund

hmm i can't help you there but if you take this all on your own steam i know you can claim a nice chunk of it back once you've finished paying it back, i know thats no concellation now, but hey, just remember that when you ARE done paying it off.

i went to college pretty young, i gradded from my immersive design program 22 days after my 19th, so at that age i really wasn't about to say no when the rents offered to pay for it, now looking back at the time, considering i had a job and coulda paid for it and c laimed back more tax as a student i shoulda paid for it and sucked up the CRA for every penny :)

If you're talking about the T2202A - Tuition & Education Amounts... I already ate all that up on this years taxes. I got a fair amount back but it went to bills. My refund was prolly 10-15% of my tuition & student loan in the end though.

She is referring to the interest you pay on your student loan, it is tax deductible.

Ya I know about that... but I'm trying to not pay the interest for the next 30 months if I can. We'll see how it goes though. I'm going to try and call then today or Monday.
