any car modders
i am new to the car stuff, i heard there are some restrictions on car modding
so i have some questions about car modding: 1) for tinted window, only on the back-side windows? what about rear window? 2) for lowering the suspension, is there restriction to certain height? (i still want to go over speedbumps so not too low lol) 3) i'm looking to change a muffler but pigs will give out ticket unless it's the original muffler? 4) some car i saw that modded has a "factory installed" on the back, where can i go to get this done instead of pigs harrassing my ride i have couple friends that does this but being a car-noob i have no idea what they are talking about so for you car modders help a noob out. thanks |

laws change and laws are different in different areas. also even people who think they know can be wrong. i was going to answer all your questions, but i could be wrong. to be 100% sure, go down to city hall and ask for a copy of the rules and regualtions for something like this. that would be my best bet!
otherwise... 1) I believe all windows can be tinted. Only the front window needs to be clear. However, you can tint the top and bottom of the front window (like a strip or something) or to a certin depth of tint. 2) Last I checked your car could only be as low as your rims. Reason being if your tire blows out, you need to be able to drive on your rim without your car bottoming out. 3) Mufflers are tricky, try getting one that works well and sits properly and doesnt sound like a plane trying to take off. You should be ok! 4) Its probably a decal (you wernt specific). Get one made if you really want to. But chances are the cops wont believe it these days, and are just as likley to pull you over with it on there as if it wasnt, or maybe even more so! I could be wrong, thats all I can think off the top of my head! Good luck! |

Don't worry too much about the rules and regulations. Cops can give you tickets for almost anything you do to your car, but never do unless there pricks and you did something else wrong and your mouthing off. Lower your car 1.5 to 2 inches and you will be fine. As for tinted windows, legally you are allowed to tint your rear window and ur back side windows as dark you'd like. Never tint your front window. Your front side window is the iffy one. you can risk tinted it with a 25% tint. I've been caught by a cop but only cause i got caught speeding and he decided to tell me to take my tint off. You dont usually get a ticket for tinting, usually a 30 day warning to take it off and present it to the city. Thats where you can take it off, show em and put it right back on lol. All you really lose is the money it takes to put it back on which is like 30 bucks. Get an exhaust, but don't go over a 4 inches in diameter. I've never heard of someone getting a ticket for a loud exhaust unless your being an idiot and reving ur engine at 11 at night in a residential area. Most of these things you will get away with if your just not a showoff.

^it totally depends on what you do to it.
Spend 3g's on rims, a sound system, swap for a bigger engine, tranny, high performance ignition, or even redo'ing the upholstery easily make a bargaining chip for more money when you sell. Asthetics (sp?) are everything when unloading a car. As for modding. As long as you don't alter outside of safety/emissions standards for your particular ymm there's quite a bit you can get away. It gets more complicated when you swap engines, but it's still pretty straight forward. Find yourself a decent mechanic or tech site. |

Where do you drift in the wack?? What kinda car do you have? Worst speed bumps for a lowered car are def. the ones on Zero ave. in Langley Township, bloody three feet wide and almost 6 inches high. |

+1 for revscene.... ive bought and sold a lot of stuff there, never really lost any money either since the community is so large you can pretty much buy/sell anything for a decent price; after you get past the lowballers :D
I hate big speedbumps.....my oilpan sits about 2" from the ground so it takes a beating. Last edited by DefJef; May 15, 06 at 06:08 AM. |
