There is nothing wrong with the prices we are paying for gas right now, Its a small price to pay for the amount of damage it does to the world both politically and environmentally.
The higher gas prices get, the better. Don't like the prices? Buy a hybrid. |

^I don't know if that's really it.... the more in demand these vehicles are the higher the prices will remain won't they? A supply and demand sort of thing?
When the prices DO drop it will be when they advance the technology and the earlier models fall behind a bit.... like with any technology right? A PC you bought 5 yrs ago for 2G is worth like 200 bones now hahaha |

^Alot of the reason they are so expensive right now is because of the volumes they are being produced in. Alot of the parts such as batteries are really expensive due to low volumes.
I was trying to be a little more general when I was talking about alternatives though. As it stands things like solar power are still fairly expensive to implement but as gas prices rise, solar starts to look more appealing and as the volumes go up, the prices should come down. :) |

I've gotten those emails in the past, but I got one with a different proposal this time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! Do it now! I hear we are going to hit close to $1.40 LITRE by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.10 PER LITRE in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a LITRE of gas is CHEAP at $99.5-$1.02.7, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are PETRO CANADA and ESSO. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millionsof people!! If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from PETRO-CAN/ESSO UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $0.88 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

And you haven't changed the "demand" part of things. Oh, so you're going to avoid the two biggest oil companies (presumably because they're that much more "evil"?.. or something?). Guess who will subsequently become the biggest oil companies? That's right, whoever you switch your business to.
If you don't change the demand and supply factors, then nothing really changes. The price increases are due to continued demand (increased, worldwide, by the emergence of economies such as china) and SHRINKING (re: disappearing) supply. All the laughable "consumer action" in the world doesn't change this one iota. |
