Well if you dont claim all of your good and you get caught then they have the rightto charge you 40-60% of the cost of the good! Its a rip off its best to claim it cause if its over the amount you only have to pay 15%. They also have the right to impound your car.

ok, this reminds me of a story i heard last weened.
i was asking the stewards about why Quarter Horse Racing had all but left BC. they said there's more money elsewhere. they then proceeded to tell me why the one main QH breeder/trainer isn't coming back to canada. he tried to lie at the border. you see, he went to a big yearling sale in the US and bought 2 colts. one for $25,000 and one for $15,000 when he crossed the border he said he paid $5,000 $15,000. the guards doubted it, and looked into it. they discovered his lying and seized the horses. they went to public auction and he bought the $25,000 one back, for $15,000 the other one actually died after it was seized for some reason. needless to say, he's not crossing the border any time soon. then there was the time another trainer, Robbie Anderson, went to a big tack sale. he bought a large amount of expensive tack and tried to sneak it past. he was found out. the tack was seized. another trainer knew someone who told him when the seized tack would be sold at public auction. he actually went, bought the tack and sold it back to Robbie. by the time the stewards finished telling me about this we were all in hysterics. i couldn't sell that tack back to robbie with a straight face. |

here's your options, dave 1. say its yours and you brought it down with you and were hanging out with friends or something playing with it...of course you can't have packaging or a reciept with it. 2. declare it and pay the duties/taxes 3. go down for like a week and then you can get it in duty free. I had my dress and I told him i didnt have the reciept, but it was actually baught like 2 months befor and i wasnt ven the one who went down and paid for it so i didnt have a reciept, that didnt bother them they said they would have some0one who would appraise it, luckily it had a tag on it when they were looking at it. And yea more expensive items they want you to declare befor you go as someone said or else you may get hassled. |

I dunno. With everything thats going on right now and the US getting overly controlling, i just wouldnt bother trying. Getting caught doesnt seem like its worth the risk. Even if you get caught and they just sieze it, your still out the money!
Whats the deal with the spending a week down there and then you dont have to declare it or something? Never heard of this! Overly I guess I cant say much. ive never been to the States except when my cruise ship was docked in Maimi, and when I was a cadet I was selected to go to the US on an exchange! But then I was only in seattle and I was stuck on the base 24-7! lame! |
