Check out Mikado on Hastings, ask for Tabi. They have somethin similar you might be able to modify to match. :P

They come black and they come up your ankle a bit, like hightops. But Very similar, I've had a pair they's pretty comfy and got some good grip. :P

^Ahh I hate the cars that look like boxes! I'm curious however, what is it about them that apeals to you? (the houses too i guess, though those atleast make a little more sense imo)

They are designed like traditional japanese footwear.

It goes between your big toe and the rest. Its really not uncomfortable at all.
