Trekkies and Trekkers
Watching a show on the SpaceChannel (ch39?)
Pretty interesting! All about wearing the uniforms around and stuff! They make some good arguments. If people can walk around wearing their favorite band t-shirt, why cant they walk around in a uniform. Same thing?!!? lol Are you a trekkie or a trekker? Apparently there is a difference! Its a neat show, and I cant find anything else on. Anyone else watching this? |

Im all down for people who want to wear their uniforms around. Doesnt hurt anyone. And they are right, theres no difference between someone wearing their favorite bands shirt around and their uniforms (personally).
BUT, theres no way Im going to call them Lieutenant or Commander. Thats a step over the line for me. |

the difference between a trekkie and a trekker is that anyone who calls themselves a trekker asserts that a difference exists between the two.
I always called myself a trekkie. Trekkies and Trekkies 2 would have been the movies on space last weekend. I've only seen the first one.... it's basically that Denise Crosby (who played Tasha Yar on TNG for one season and had a reocurring guest role on the show) was so encapsulated by this weird culture that had stemmed out of Star Trek that she wanted to make a documentary about them. What came out was... interesting? |

In terms of being a 'window' into the world of Star Trek, NG is the gold standard. Encountering the Borg, revelations about the Klingons, Q, and the wonderous Data is all VERY VERY good shit - but the discontinuous storyline limited the series. Voyager was like a sitcom that included those encounters and more. They were constantly in deep space, not just dealing with political issues. Also, there was one primary objective as the thread throughout the show - to get home. But I'm sure we could go back and for on that. Let's look at the star trek formula in terms of characters: Picard vs. Janeway - Winner Janeway I know Picard was incredible - but Janeway's character evolved so much more and having a woman captain was revolutionary. Data vs. Tuvok - Tie Data was a constant source of amusement and Tuvok was a bit dull. But in terms of acting the 'intriguing' one part, Tuvok was simply a better. Riker vs. Chakote - Winner Riker Who could deny this lady killer? Chakote licked. Crusher vs. Doctor - Winner Doctor While I too enjoyed Crusher's tits, the concept of a holographic doctor trying to become more human and fight for the same's dignity trumps Beverly any time. Jordie Vs. Belana - Winner Belana Levar Burton should have stayed doing kids shows. Vulnerable, self-concious and generally annoying, Jordie was the show's weak link. Belana, struggling with race issues and a Klingon temper: interesting. Ensign Crusher vs. Harry Kim - Winner Kim Kim was like Jordie at first, but his character development saw him grow by leaps and bounds to a strong bridge officer. Crusher on the other hand was science geek who got little boners when he saw anti-matter containment fields. I'm glad he went back to the academy. Gynan vs. Nelix - Winner Gynan I'll conceed this one. Diana vs. Seven of Nine - winner Seven of Nine I rolled my eyes everytime she said something like 'Something's not right' or 'I feel terrible'. The only thing that brought me back was her little italian nose and her push up bra. 7 had a better push up bra. Maybe these characters don't line up so well. We could argue about this too. How about a winner takes all: which series had the best 2 part finale? Start the poll. |
