should i go to a dj school first or buy decks now.
hey..ive usin traktor for awhile now but i wanne switch it to the real thing so im wonderin if i should go to this dj school waist some money but get some more experience and probly learn faster www.tridj.com or just get turn tables and learn it on my own slowly?

get your own tables, there's not much a teacher can show you that you cant figure out yourself. just have a buddy that knows the ropes come over and show you the basics, and the rest should be gravy
and dont be too worried about wasting your money on decks, if you buy a used pair, and decide it isnt for you, the price of tables is pretty much constant, especially if they're techs. just my 2cents |

dj school huh?
just a personal view, but i think that seems like something were they are going to make money off something you could learn just as fast on your own. Im sure you could hook up with someone whos willing to chill and teach you the basics. The rest is all up to you on how fast you learn! Buy some decks and do it yourself! But thats just my opinion! |

all DJ schools can teach you really is the basics, basically how to beatmatch, how to use the pitch, and all the tools on the turntable and the basic mixer. Which is fairly easy to learn. its the style that they cant teach you, everyone has their own unique style which progresses with experience. my suggestion would be to buy your own tables and mixer and learn yourself. because only you will know when you are ready.
ps. I TOTALLY REGRET BUYING NUMARK DEX TO BEGIN WITH. listen to Akeel . |

I agree with what Erik said. I don't have numarks, I have geminis that honestly are about as good as I've seen non-techs get. The drive is still pretty weak so when I push off the record it takes a split second to right itself. That's okay though, it's taught me to be rather light whenever I touch the deck (a practice that translates well onto tech12s). Honestly, I'd rather pay $400 for a pair of used crap tables than drop 400+each for used techs, especially if you're not sure if you're going to keep going with it.
Though I've had these tables for nearly a year and a half. I'm thinking I'll need to do the upgrade at some point in the next year... |

If you dont know what your going to do with it. Get some cheap tables and check it out. If you do decide you want to take it further, then I would definatly recommend Tech12s. |

hein, i look at that 4 bills as disposable. the decks i have aren't exactly mint and i dunno if i could get away with reselling them. Honestly, I'll probably want to use them alongside the techs, just so I've got some extra decks... If I'm ever at the point that I own 4 techs I think of $400 as a drop in the bucket. If I ever do want to practice on the real thing I've got plenty of friends with 'em.
