Place to Learn the Guitar (Burnaby)?
Posting for somebody from work. Anybody know a place that teaches the guitar in the Burnaby area. Perfably Near Brentwood mall lougheed area, or maybe even metrotown. No private people must be like a store or something. thanks

how about doing it the ol' fashion way? Pick up an acoustic, buy a chord book and learn the basics. If you learn G C and F you can play the blues, or folk, or anything you want to, really. You could write a hundred songs with the same three chords.
Just tell him to buy a chromatic tuner (I recommend a Korg) and start learned A, B, C, D, E, F, and G chords and he'll be set. After that it just comes down to playing around with picking and chord progression and the rest will come with time. |

yeah some amazing players are self-taught. i never continued on with my lessons, but I don't think it was it was for me anyway. My pretty lil guitar is sitting right beside my desk as I type.
I had a guitar teacher in North Burnaby, but it's private lessons so I guess that won't work. |

i'm teaching myself both acoustic and bass guitar at the moment.
if your acoustic guitar is tuned, just listen to some old rock and blues tunes. and pick at the strings. It didn't take much time for me to figure out little blues and rock riffs. Half the fun is learning it yourslef. You'll start inventing your own songs n shit. just giver man |

Not exactly Burnaby, but have him check out the Neil Douglas guitar shop in New Westminister they'll hook him up with whatever info he needs to know.
829 12th. St. (525-8512) awesome place...nice and comfy environment..not indimidating at all. Neil offers lessons out of his store by a lot of talented musicians. Even if your friend learns better by ear or just wants to take it slow...they'll make sure he's with someone who understands and can adapt the process, in a way that suits him best. Reasonably priced lessons and Great people. One of those places where you can just sit and have lunch with the guitars, and they understand. :) |
